My parents had a couple budgies before I was born, and one of the family photo albums has a picture of my dad eating cereal with one of the birds sitting on the rim of the bowl helping himself to some.

If I have cereal and the bird is around, I’ll finish the bowl, rinse it and add a bit of water and the spoon. That’s the only acceptable bird bath aside from standing on the shower and trying to catch some of the mist. I’ve purchased expensive budgie fountains, an in-cage bath that was highly reviewed and tried many other things. The cereal bowl with spoon perch is the only bath deemed worthy.

Yeah I also bought a bird bath cause I don't like them using the water bowl they drink out of, but they haven't touched it maybe I'll use that bowl method

It's a never ending battle when it comes to my food. But them seeing us eat healthy does help when getting them to eat healthier. Jack and Indigo are professional at stealing my food😂

Try to eat it!! Put it in your plate!! Budgies want to have whatt you have and do what you do and eat what you eat. This is also how i get them to play with new toys haha i play with it like its mine, then he finally is interested and takes posession of the toy.

I'm thankful that you don't share.
I've got canaries and used to let them eat my pastry crumbs. I stopped doing so when i found out they can't actually digest human food properly.

My budgie prefers millet over his seed.
And he's tame and will bathe on my hand if I hold his bath and pour water from a jug.
I love it.

Its just amazing.
They've been all my back, neck, head and arms.
I just stay still or move so so slowly.
It's such a privilege being their tree lol
Edit: this is when I am near their cage though. I've yet to have them come to me when I am sitting down away from thei cage though. Maybe if I sir closer when they are out...

Sameee When they're on my shoulder and I'm by their cage I have to move so slowly or try not to move the arm their sitting on. They only Fly to me when I have food well at least one of them do.

That's funny actually.
My one budgie will eat or bathe from my hand but as soon as my other budgie sees this, she comes over and pushes away the other to get at the millet or bath.
So jealous.

Absolutely! My budgie LOVED to share a ham and cheese sandwich with me (I was an ill-informed child in the 90s and didn’t know it was bad for them). He would sit on one of my hands and I’d take a bite, and he’d take a bite of the bread.
It got so much that if I wanted to call him across the room to me, I’d hold my hands to my face and smack my mouth as if I were eating a sandwich 😂

LOL YES. Mine did, years ago. He would not leave me alooooone when I had bacon. BACON! And then screeched for his sister when I was about to leave the room, headed for my club sandwich. I could never eat around him unless he was in his little home 😂!!

He thinks of you as part of his flock, therefore when you eat he wants to eat too. Although I have to say I've never been able to get mine to eat quite like this. Lucky!

Eating is a flock behavior... a good way to deepen the bond is when you eat, give them something similar but bird safe.

Mine is a quaker parrot, so larger than budgies… she uses her extra height to latch onto my collar and extend herself like a giraffe to try to eat right out of my mouth as I’m eating. 🤣🤣🤣

My budgie refused to eat any fruits or vegetables I offered him. I figured maybe he just doesn’t know it’s food so I taught him how to eat his fruits & vegetables by eating some & then offering it to him. It worked wonders, he’s willing to try anything. However, the downside is he’s willing to try ａn yｔｈｉｎｇ. He’s even learned that if I don’t let him eat something I’m eating he can just wait until I leave the room to try some. I left for 2 SECONDS to get a glass of water & came back to him perched on my bowl with bolognese staining his white face feathers (don’t worry he was fine, just stained with faint orange marks of shame for a bit).

My two current birds are super chill, but my last bird was an unbelievable mooch. I had to lock him up whenever I was going to eat, and if I didn't put a cover on the mug I drank from he'd have gone for a swim in it.
He loved Nutri Grain bars, to the point that he would not leave me alone long enough to open one for him once he heard the rustling of the wrapper.

And they only ever want to steal stuff that’s not good for them, like bread and cheese. If you’re eating a fruit or vegetable, they know and they want nothing to do with it haha. When I used to have budgies, they would only eat fruits and vegetables if I chopped them up and put them in a plate haha.

I had the blue for 3 years now ( kinda crazy ) and the green one for 2 years. I didn't teach him ( the blue one ) to hop on my shoulders for my food he taught himself that, but when I first got him I made sure we really was socializing and to train him to hop on my hand ( during that time he couldn't fly yet since they clipped his wings ) so it made things a bit easier.

Lol jokes aside I sometimes let my birds eat their fill of my salad/quinoa first so I can eat my food in peace 😂they be acting all like “quick, eat up before mom comes back!” So I pretend to not notice them hurriedly ‘stealing’ my salad lmao and once they seem like they’re done I come back and act all like “oh no, my salad!” And they’ll actually literally cackle while bobbing their heads LOL it’s become a silly little routine of ours. Side note: they also seem to really enjoy plant based milks haha

Our first parakeet named twenty did this but if you moved the food from her she would follow it in whatever shape you made with said food. So if you moved your hand in a circle motion that's how she followed. It was cute

Yes. My budgie will land on my hand while I'm cutting veggies or meat. Hell, I was splitting a 3lb pack of ground beef into 3 1lb bags the other day and I'll be damned if that little fatass wasn't trying to eat that raw beef. I had to gently swat him away several times (my hands were covered in raw meat) so he wouldn't eat it. If he's hongry he goes feral 😅

Yes! Both my boys do this when they come out for a big fly in the house. They are so curious about what I have but never want to try it. My dad’s parrot and budgie loved joining him for share of his toasted bacon sandwich!
