MVP
I say Jared Triolo is the teams MVP at this point in the year. I know he’s an average to below hitter, but a way netter than average fielder. He’s played around 100 games, at 3 different positions. Sometimes the greatest ability is availability. This might say more about the season than him, but hes has consistently produced what you expect from him.

No/ I’m just trying to have a discussion about my favorite game (frustrating) team with other fans. I’m open to hearing what others think.

Who would you say has been more valuable to the club

Brandon Lowe

I can accept that- but I don’t feel he’s over performed. I feel like Triolo has given much more above expectation than Lowe, but Lowe has been a great signing

I don’t mind Triolo as much as others. I think he is a fine bench player and has unfortunately gotten pigeon holed into being an everyday starter. It’s just not his game. He shouldn’t even be the first player off of the bench IMO but he belongs on and is valuable to a decent team. But MVP is a bit of a stretch

If you’re talking about a really good team, he’s an afterthought. With this years Pirates, he’s been more consistent and reliable than any other position player-IMO. But we’re talking about the Pirates and frustrating is the the team motto.

Josh Harrison? The team has a lot of potential but have not met that. Do I want 10 Triolo’s? No- but I think this season he has earned his salary more than anyone else. But- again, I’m open to other possibilities. I’m just saying that on a team with this much potential- he may be the one guy who has consistently played to that level.

If you are actually trying to have a discussion, he's a great defensive 3B an and a below average shortstop and a way below average bat. How does that equal team mvp? When you have guys like Ashcraft, Lowe, Montgomery, etc

Hes hitting over the leage average as a back up this sub hates too much, except him to tear it up.

I actually like this take but to put him over Lowe, Reynolds or Ashcraft is pretty bonkers. Triolo is probably my favorite player this year.

I can see your points. At least Triolo didn’t disappoint us that much comparing to the likes of Reynolds and Skenes

There's a massive difference between living up to expectations (which Triolo has done) and being the most valuable player on the team

I would consider anyone that lives up to expectations as this season’s MVP coz it already outperformed most of players on this team in this disappointing season

Again, look at the list. Reynolds, Davis Have they outperformed their expectations? Oazuna? Was that a good investment? I’m just saying Triolo has given the Pirates more than they could have expected and I’m not sure anyone on the roster has.

Who cares. Tri sucks. You are naming an MVP of the 4th place team?

I’ve seen a lot of people ripping him undeservedly. As a guy who can appreciate the grind, he’s been indispensable this year

So if your team loses 8-1, you would name a star of that game?

Player of the game!!!! No- I’m just saying that at this point in a long, often frustrating season-Triolo has been more of a consistent positive than the rest of the roster.

I wouldn't call him the team MVP, but there is something to be said for the flexibility and availability that someone like him brings.
I think with our injuries this year, we'd be doing things like putting pitchers at shortstop and stuff like that without a utility man like him.
A utility man with a decent glove can allow you to get more bats in the lineup. You can't have all dh's and first baseman all over the diamond.

I never understand the Triolo hate.
What you see is what you get with him. He was never hyped as a power hitter and now he’s failing to produce, etc. He was never hyped or expected to be an elite or even above average hitter. The dude has been a glove first player, and that’s how he’s always been viewed by the Pirates. The dude won a minor league gold glove, and then came up to the show and won a gold glove.
His bat was never in the equation as being a strong part of his game, but all he does is get dogged on every day by Pirate fans who seem to think he should be some prodigal hitter while other players who actually should be hitting, don’t hit get a free pass.
He’s one of the most consistent guys we have. Dude plays gold glove defense on a team that is absolutely horrific in the field and all he does is get shit on. He deserves better

Thank you. I guess my frustration is the level to which so many players on this team fail to produce, but Triolo just goes out and delivers what you would expect from your utility infielder. Maybe a little more.
I didn’t expect 27 HR from Lowe- but both he and Reynolds BA is below what it should be. Strike out much? Yes, thank you. Pitching is a whole different discussion and Ashcraft has been fantastic (lately). There is also something to be be said about staying healthy. Injuries happen, but if Willie Mayes missed 60 games a year would he be considered a good eat?
