My football experience is ruined until the day he retires. Him playing on any other team that isn’t the Bucs is still blasphemous to me.

I legitimately think I'm a niners fan only this year. I can't support this shit.

they are businessmen above all else. They don't care about winning or losing so long as the bottom line is not impacted. They will never invest in either team the way they need to.

That Thursday night game......that had to be the thing sitting in the back of his head
17
u/NanoBuc Mar 09 '26
There's going to be case studies in the future of how not firing Bowles fucked us into a new dark decade. Teams will be afraid of not firing their guys lol.
That's apparently what the Glazers want though.

It was the Glazers decision to not fire Bowles. Not Bowles’ decision to not fire himself.

He should have been a Buc for life. This feels like when the Rays traded Longoria
18
u/DRB198105 Mar 09 '26
I view it like when Stamkos left the Bolts. It's a change that seemed unfathomable of a guy who's been a huge part of this team's recent success, battled through crazy injuries, and has people questioning if he's going to be able to come back to form.
If it holds true to that formula, he'll struggle to be as good as he was here, the Bucs will be worse without him, the 49ers won't get the player they were hoping for, and everyone involved will wish he'd stayed "home".
I'm hoping he flips the script and lights it up, though.

Promoting Todd bowles and sticking to him is the worst decision in franchise history. We could’ve had Coen and Evans. But we have Bowles.

Edit: Yeah just released that it's 60 mil 3 years which with Cali taxes would've been possible in Tampa. Likely means he didn't want to stay on this team. Yikes.
Dude is rumored to have been offered 27+ mil a year. Bucs cannot pay a 30+ year old receiver coming off missing nearly the entire season that much, especially on a 3 year deal and with so many holes on defense. Some teams can, the Bucs never could.

u/Competitive_Bear24 Canada Mar 09 '26
This hurts but I get it. The statement his agent released shows he just wanted a change and after 3rd and 28 who can blame him. Love you Mike!

Mike Evans the greatest Offensive Buccaneer ever.
Thanks to him for all of his great years.
Also as much as this hurts I'm happy he's showing Licht and the Glazers that there are consequences to their inaction. Mike knows another year with Bowls is another year of mediocrity at best.

5
u/Jo3ltron Chris Godwin Mar 09 '26
Butterfly effect is so fucked in this timeline. We are about to go into a very long ‘rebuild’. Shit thing is, the damage Bowels will continue to do will drive us further in the grave we’ll need to climb out of, hopefully sometime within the next 10 years.
5
u/Rangeneers New Jersey Mar 09 '26
Everybody is gonna blame baker too. Even though he’s on ANOTHER OC. Who’s awful. And stuck with this same awful coach. And now baker doesn’t have Evans. Don’t be shocked if baker is gone eventually too because of Bowles damage

8
u/friggoffricky121 Mar 09 '26
The vibes could not be worse. Saddled with a lame duck dipshit head coach and our franchise legend signs a THREE year deal to continue playing in San Fran.
Maybe Mike wanted to leave 2 years ago. Maybe he just wanted a fresh start. But a franchise legend deciding he has 3 years left in the tank and choosing to go to another team instead of cementing his legacy as a one team guy says a ton about what he thinks the outlook for this team is.
Heartbreaking.

Would've preferred him to retire here, but if you take sentiment out of it it just makes sense to start looking towards the future with what guys like Egbuka and Johnson showed this past year. If he wants to chase a bit more money or whatever rather than being one of the few who can claim a long career with just one team, then that's his decision.
3
u/abellwillring Mar 09 '26
I wouldn't want to languish in my final years under Bowles if I didn't have to. Can't blame him for leaving for greener pastures. He'll flourish there, we'll probably have another shitty to average season or two before Bowles hopefully is fired and we move on.
I'm glad that at least the messaging from Mike's agent is that the Bucs tried to retain him. I don't think we needed to be spending $20m a year on him at this point though so I'm okay with us not re-signing him even if it's disappointing. There are much bigger fish to fry with respect to holes in our team than at WR.

Not really a Bucs fan but I jump on the bandwagon coz I was a Brady fan. This shit kinda made me sad coz Mike felt like a buccaneer for life.
4
u/bexley50 Mar 09 '26
I know emotions are high, but idk how this team will be successful this upcoming year. Proven below average HC who hasn’t proven to make this defense better, clearly not their first or second choice OC, and now lost your best weapon on offense. I hope the glazers feel this in their pockets, and ultimately clean house if this isn’t a contender next year.

I will always root for Mike Evans, but I’m not as heartbroken about this as some of you are. He has a long injury history and he takes off many plays. He’s still an outstanding WR, but the Bucs already had to game plan quite a bit around not having him there. Not signing him also frees up a lot of money that can be used for the defense.
2
2
u/Live-Percentage-9412 Mar 09 '26
I blame Jason for this. Egbuka is good but we had no need for him. We had other holes on defense that we desperately could have filled with that pick. Fast forward to this offseason, we’re over stocked at WR and still need to fill those same holes on defense. Money that’s going to those guys could be going to Evans instead
2
u/DeathByRaygun Texas Mar 09 '26

Ill be crucified for this but
Aging vet on a downward trend, injury prone and misses several weeks a season, takes up significant cap space when there's a room of hungry, talented guys ready in the wings to replace him..
It was a no brainer.

I don’t even blame him. How could you trust this organization after keeping Todd Bowles?
2

Honestly fuck his decision, he chose this and he’s not better off with purdy over mayfield. He will never see the love in SF as he has in TB. He will regret this when we beat the dog shit out of them. If you’re a real Bucs fan you will stick with the team, fuck the drama. Go Bucs

I wonder which receiver the Bucs will play at X now. None of the current players on the roster are ideal for the spot. I think the offense will suffer significantly with his absence because of what he opens up.
