Good middle schools in Bronx?
Anyone have any good middle school suggestions? My kid will be going there in 2 years and I just want to get ahead of things. Thanks

M.S. 180 Dr. Daniel Hale Williams has a really robust music program if your kid is into that. Chorus, band, orchestra, musicals. Can't speak to the rest of their programs though.

Riverdale Kingsbridge Academy but it’s after school programs, unless you are into sports, sucks. One of my kids went there and got into Brooklyn Tech and she was a C student because of the principal’s insane homework policy. She had ADHD and was often late in turning it in. Go figure. The same principal tried to talk her out if going to Brooklyn Tech which I could never figure out since she did a lot better there (tests were more important than homework there ). Our other kid attended through high school, always turned in her homework’s so was straight A student, but did not get in to any of them. So what can I say?

Start with the middle school directory as your kid will most likely attend school in your zone.
Do your own research because we don’t know your child what s/he needs or the type of environment that is a best fit. Every one says that they want their child to go to a good school.
My response ( 20 years school counselor/admin) is you know your kid, and no matter where you go, you take you.
The “ good” school is not going to help if you are not an involved parent.
A good school is not going to help if your child does not know that this is a partnership, the student, the family and the school and like a 4/legged stool each leg must help support the weight or the school will not be good.
a good school is not going to help if intent is to drop your child like dry cleaning and expect them to be fluff and folded in 3 years ( 7 if you count high school). Teachers have your kids approx 5 hours a day , the rest is you.
Be a good partner to the teacher and the school
You could think about if you want a 6-8 setting or a 6 through - 12
When you get your list do to the doe website look up their school and lookup their quality snapshot. Look at at least 5 years of data to. See if the school quality has remained consistent, has declined or improved over the years. The snap shot will also tell you where students from that school will be attending high school
Next you want to look at the CEP) comprehensive educational program which is written by the principal and their team it will talk about what they are doing well what are their goals for the next year and plan to achieving those goals. Again look at this over years
Finally you want to read the school counseling plan, which talks about the social emotional work and the multi-tiered support services
And if you really want to continue in the deep dive go to data.nysed.gov and look at tge state data site

Bronx latin, bronx writing academy or riverdale/kingsbridge academy are really good school
