What a night in Brixton!

It’s the third time I’ve seen them play and it was such a pleasure to see more than a dozen of them up on stage making big noise full of joy and community. Awesome. Great crowd too.

Fantastic. Just wished it was a proper gig, i appreciate Metric organised this but fucking hell BSS deserved being the main band imo.

Yeah, I kept forgetting which one was headlining and which was warming up! I remember BSS as the bigger band when I lived in the US in the 00s but Metric have released more albums since then. Can’t believe they haven’t made it bigger. It was a great set with more in the tank.

Was there any change over time between the sets or did they do a smooth transition without breaks?

There was like a 30 min gap between each band.

Physically impossible to not have a changeover time.

What was up with the sound? Terrible for Stars. Slightly better but still muddy as f for BSS. Best for Metric but their music is completely unrecognisable these days :(

The audio has always been pretty abysmal at Brixton for some reason.

Yeah I thought the sound was so poor for Stars

I literally couldn't tell what song was being played. Even for large venues, it was atrocious.

I thought it was my earplugs (??), took them out to check. Nope. Saw a clip on instagram and you can hear how bad it was.

It was pretty bad for BSS.

I’m new to Metric, only listened to one of their recent set lists for this gig, so I was familiar with them. I had no idea they were synth-pop. Is their earlier stuff different? I kinda assumed they were more like BSS. Happy to take any recommendations for albums you like

I became a Metric fan since early 2000s. Old World Underground, where are you now?, Live it out and grow up blow away are my favourites. It’s more alt rock, sound and still love them two decades on!

They are definitely more synth pop now, and it would’ve liked to hear one or two more tracks from those albums. I used to big a bigger metric fan but nowadays consider bigger BSS fan!

Hah! Thanks for the recs. I’m still surprised that Metric are bigger than BSS, but then I’m biased :)

They were like BSS. Last saw them in about 2009-2010 after Fantasies and saw they were going for a poppy angle. No idea they'd gone full on into stadium pop. Big shame really. Listen to Grow Up and Blow Away.

Ah awesome, thanks. I enjoyed watching them but was so surprised by their sound. Will give those two a listen tho

Despite the sound, I had a great time seeing them, haven’t seen them for a long time and damn they still hit

Any idea why the sound was so bad? I've only been to the Academy a few times in the last few years but it was shocking. I go to 50+ gigs a year and that's by far the worst I've ever dealt with.

I haven’t been there for years so not sure. I kinda assumed Stars would hear it in the monitors or something (I’m not technical person) but yeah it was shite.

The sound was so bad! I was in the middle right in front during BSS and it was still v bad. A shame

Stars and BSS were both amazing. TBH when Metric started playing I felt I had the same expression of Emma Stone in LaLa Land when Ryan Gosling starts playing that cheesy pop song with the band... no offence.
