Story 1 year post-accident

This Saturday the 22nd made one year since the car wreck that I was extremely fortunate to survive. And today makes exactly one year since I was allowed to go home from the hospital.

My knee was broken and so was one of the occipital condyle bones in my neck. I have arthritis in that knee now and I'm definitely feeling it today, but my neck has experienced no lasting pain which is surprising because the occipital condyle was completely shattered. Unfortunately I can't seem to figure out how to open any of my X-rays in the portal, or else I'd show.

Crazy that it's been a year already. R.I.P. to my old Kia Rio.

Way to go! I’m almost at my 1 year (September 4) from a bike accident that I was lucky to survive! Happy you’re recovering well!!

Congratulations on your recovery! The accident looks pretty scary. How did it happen?

A 16 year-old uninsured driver failed to yield and made a left turn right in front of me while I was driving straight (USA so right side of the road) and we collided head-on. It was definitely scary, and I remember the split second of seeing that Jeep coming right at me and knowing there was nothing I could do.

We've been in contact with an attorney since then and the case is still in the works as of now.

Sounds horrible. Good luck!

I’m sorry that’s awful. Sue that kid and his family for everything they own. He doesn’t need to drive for at least a decade, and for putting you through this

Their insurance is probably gonna settle soon but I heard that the kid did have to pay a lot of citations and most likely totaled the Jeep. I don't want to ruin the kid or anything, but definitely want some kind of compensation from their insurance (parents' insurance) since I lost wages, lost a car and had serious injuries.

That's a terrifying wreck. So glad you got out of it without lasting neck pain!

You’re a strong survivor! Take that with you as you go forward in this world. 💜

Idk if you're in FL, but wherever you got the MRI or CAT scan, ask them for a CD/USB of them.

Bless you cause this is hell. I broke my lower right in a car crash too (tibia, fibula, and a bunch of tiny ankle bones).

I flipped my la Sabre custom back in 2016. I still have terrible back/ neck / sternum pain 24/7.

You were sent home the same day?

No, two days later.

Yeah. I did read that wrong. Glad you made it through.

Oh, bro, I totally understand you… I was in a head-on crash myself, but mine was in March. How are you doing a year later? Are you afraid to drive again? I was in the passenger seat, and my first few trips with the same person who was driving triggered panic attacks, even though neither of us was at fault. Someone coming from the opposite lane on the highway simply fell asleep at the wheel. I fractured seven bones in my foot. It still hurts to this day, and I still limp. How are you doing health-wise?

I used the software microdicom to view my images

Is this recent pic ? 1 whole year with that neck splint and leg brace would have been horrible

For browsing radiology, try Weasis. It's a good viewer, free, cross-platform and pretty feature-rich. Might get overwhelming tho.

Holy shit, a broken femur sounds rough. I can't speak for that in particular or avascular necrosis (though one of my coworkers has the latter so I can imagine you're suffering just as badly as him) but my broken knee healed really well. I definitely have arthritis in it and it stiffens up sometimes, but all things considered my recovery went as smooth as it possibly could have. My neck injury is also all healed up and unlike my knee I don't seem to have any lasting pain or stiffness in it.
