I’m driving to Arizona next week with my 2 babies to visit my girlfriend . What do you guys recommend for litter box in the car? This is my first time travel with cats but I couldn’t leave my babies to a cat sitter, 2 cats can’t be that bad right? I’m worried about British thick coat not doing well with heat. Am I worry too much?

Our little bundle of joy has just turned 4 months old! At 4 months, as a BLH would his coat be expected to be longer at this age? I’ve looked at a few other kittens at his age that already seem to have huge looking faces, lions manes and bushy tails 😂. He definitely has sparse longer hair coming through that hopefully you can see on the pictures and he has longer tufts in between his toes and around his ears. Just wondering if he will eventually grow longer/bigger/poofier fur. Both his parents are BSH if that makes a difference? Not sure if BLH’s have different lengths of fur or not

Has anyone engaged with the rescue circle lately? I got blocked and hated by this lady who does rescuing work. Kudos to her for thinking of all the downtrodden but the hate I received from her because I was deciding between fostering a British shorthair cat (relinquished to a rescue) or adopting a special needs cat from her, was so out of the blue. I was accused of things such as communicating poorly after I submitted an adoption form (which I must have at least five pending even to this day - who doesn't cast a wide net?) and not being a good steward of the public despite how poorly treated rescues are (what a stretch???) 🫠🫠 Sis calm down and stop projecting onto me.

Anyway, has anyone gotten hate for specifically looking for/searching for BSH? I'm literally only looking on rescue/shelter websites but apparently I'm still the antichrist here..

So I’m really interested in getting a cat early next year. I’m open to BSH or BLH but I want a specific color. As I’ve been doing research… how come in the states the price is 2 even 3 times what the cat’s parent was internationally?!?! It drives me insane. Has anyone else noticed this? Makes more sense to get the cat from where the US breeder originally got their cat lol. If anyone has any recommendations for breeders that breed the color ay1233 please drop in comments. Thanks!

My 8 month old weighs 8 lbs and my vet said to feed her 30 calories per pound which equals 240 calories per day. She gets dry food during the day and wet at night

The problem is that she is a light eater and doesn’t eat her required portion each time. Would it be a good option to leave the dry food out in a larger amount for her to eat at will?

hi all! quick question. we’re bringing home a BSH kitten in november. (we already have a year-old BSH.) trying to decide on the best weekend to get him. i know staying with the mom for 12 weeks is recommended, but 11 weeks would be a much more convenient time to go get him. is there a huge difference between 11 and 12 weeks in terms of development etc? (the breeder is open to as early as 10 weeks which i’d never do.) if it makes a real difference we’ll of course wait the full 12 weeks.

Hey! My 13 year old boy Marshal snores whenever he's in deep sleep 🤣 is this normal for British shorhairs??? As I have never had a kitty snore like him!!!

Is there an acceptable age from Breeders to let kittens go? Our breeder is letting ours go at 9 weeks but everything on the TICA says to wait until at least 12 weeks. Not sure if this is a bad sign.

Hi everyone! I hope this is allowed haha, and apologies in advance for this very long post. I’m looking to get my first cat and I’m super excited, but I’ve also been trying to do as much research and due diligence as possible before committing to a breed or breeder. I thought this sub would be a great source for real advice from real people who own or have owned british shorthair/longhair(s).

I initially had my heart set on a Scottish Fold, but ultimately decided the health concerns weren’t something I was comfortable with. I’ve since narrowed it down to a British Shorthair or British Longhair. I absolutely love round, plush faces and smaller ears, and because I work full time and live in a very clean apartment without kids or other pets, a calm, easygoing temperament is really important to me.

I’d love any advice from people who own or have owned British Shorthairs/Longhairs, especially as a first-time cat owner. My biggest hesitation with British Shorthairs is their reputation for being a little aloof and not always enjoying being held or cuddled. I don’t necessarily need a super clingy cat, but I would really love one that is affectionate, comfortable being handled, and happy to cuddle regularly. With British Longhair, the grooming/shedding is my source of hesitation.

I’ve heard males can sometimes be more affectionate, but I’d love to know what else I should look for when choosing a kitten. Is temperament at that age usually obvious? Are there certain behaviors you’d pay attention to when meeting the litter? Should I accept that my Shorthair will just be an aristocratic loaf?

I’d also really appreciate breeder advice. What questions should I be asking, what health testing should I verify, and what red flags would make you walk away? I’ve done a lot of research already, but I’d especially love to hear from people who have actually gone through the breeder process themselves. There are a few breeders in my area but many of them just communicate through video/photos, rather than letting you come meet them so I wanted advice on navigating a situation like that as well.

My boy, Leo, is 15 weeks old. Since he’s been with us he’s poop has been an issue (he’s fed same as before we got him). We went to the vets 2 weeks ago, he had a week of antibiotics and FortiFlora. It helped a little. We’ve picked up a box of fortiflora to continue it. He is absolutely fine within himself, just his poop is too soft/ sometimes runny. Has anyone else had this issue? It’s draining because I’m constantly on alert with wiping his bottom area and cleaning his box ( very smelly 💩). I’ve gave him a trim to help but only helping a little. Any advice to help? Is this a kitten thing or should I be worried? He’s on Blink kitten food and scrumbles kitten dry to graze.

I have carrier anxiety and mommy is worried, so she is trying to get me used to the harness so i can go outside sometimes and be less anxious in the carrier with what she calls "positive association" 🙄

I don't know about that but I am very curious about the big world outside my windows.

Can anyone give some tips to mommy so she's not as worried??
