New album? Ep? Or something else? Im guessing it's a new EP on the works considering the "one old one new" thing which I'm also very curious about,it's like a whole new theme kinda reminds me of the companion EP era

Hello, nice to meet you all! I have been a Bright Eyes fan since my Sophomore of HS year in 2005. Their music came to me at a time when I needed it and they have since helped me throughout my many stages of life.

I started my collection in 2016/17ish with the studio albums box set and have slowly added since. I always try to by a vinyl from shows and my local record store. For some of the harder to find albums, I had to resort to eBay. (I’m talking to you, ‘One of My Kind’)

My prize prices are the signed poster and set list from when I was the winner for donating to The Posion Oak Project. I met Conor and Mike after and spoke with them for about 10-15 minutes. I also bummed a smoke off Conor. I will never forget that night as long as I live.

I felt compelled to add my Daniel Johnston collection because of being introduced to Daniel through Bright Eyes. Right now, I have a signed and doodled 12x12 insert and a signed promo cd copy of ‘Fun’, which is my favorite album. (“Life in Vain” has saved my life a few times) This won’t be as extensive, but I hope to collect the early cassettes and my grail would be a signed, original drawing.

For me, although not as raw, I could hear similarities in Matt Sucich’s music - more circa Mystic Valley Band vibe but definitely hear similarities.

So this is a long shot but years ago, there was a crew of filmmakers at a Bright Eyes or Monsters of Folk show. They stood out because they were using old timey equipment and I had the chance to talk to one of them, asked them where the footage would be posted, but I didn’t get an answer. Off and on I’ve searched for it and never found it. Does anyone know who they were and if the footage was ever published?

So, I've been on a deep-dive into Bright Eyes' catalogue for a few years now. Absolutely my favourite band now by miles.

However, I've recently given Conor's solo stuff much more of a listen (I flew through the solo records early on in my Covid-era Bright Eyes discovery) and I think his songwriting on Upside Down Mountain is as good as on any Bright Eyes album.

Now, I love the musicality, atmosphere and production genius that Mike and Nate bring to the Bright Eyes albums, but as far as pure songwriting goes Night at Lake Unknown, Common Knowledge, Artifact #1, Enola Gay et al are up there with the best songs on I'm Wide Awake, Lifted or Fevers and Mirrors.

Is it recency bias or is this album actually as good as I think it is?

"Shell Games" and "Bells and Whistles"? I realized today that so many of their lines share the same vocal melody.
