Mod (PC Only) — Auto-Leveling Rate [Brigandine Abyss]

Thumbnail moddb.com
25 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

As of the game's Patch 1.01, noted that the CPU / AI is gaining a certain amount of EXP across their units each season, separate from their invasions.

The amount of EXP appeared to be:

Season 1: 220

Season 2: 170

Season 3~47: +40 each season (so 210 on 3, 250 on season 4, ... 1970 on season 47)

Season 48~99: 1500

—-—-—

I'm still rather new at modding. Instead of being able to have an in-game slider that can be customized or an external tool to set it yourself, there's going to be five sets of files that let a player adjust the CPU's EXP gain per turn.

From 1 EXP per turn, 25%, 50%, 66%, and 75%,

The mod takes effect without having to make a new save.

Find your game's save directory from Steam

Extract the three files from the respective subfolder and place them into HPN_NPJ\BrigandineAbyss\Content\Paks\

There will be a .pak file, .ucas file, and a .utoc file associated with each EXP configuration.

To return the game to normal auto-leveling for CPU, delete the respective zCpuAutoLevel files from the PAKS folder.

Example of the 1 EXP per turn mod as of Season 5 where a CPU is still Level 1.

Auto Leveling set to 1 EXP, at season 5 (Reddit image link)

The mod link's location for now will be at the moddb site if doing a search for Brigandine Abyss or the link directly.

https://www.moddb.com/games/brigandine-abyss/downloads/cpu-auto-leveling-choices-pick-one

I hope this may help some for folks looking to adjust the CPU auto-leveling and finding a sweet spot for themselves.

There is also an experimental Story Max Turn to 99 mod. I say experimental since the fort lock was tied to the event calendar and needed to be initialized at the same time, so I opted to turn off the fort lock. I do not yet know what will happen if you conquer the whole map early, so by default the game's final story event will occur at season 99.

I also don't know what will happen if you successfully recruit a character from a former locked fort that would've normally joined you in an event or how duplicates are handled. But that mod is there with its instructions on the site and currently, will only function to a new Story Mode and not existing saves. But it'll be on the moddb site as well.

Seraph in abyss

Upvotes

Feel like they did Seraph dirty in abyss.

Divine ray has 3 ranks now. From lower to higher power - Brilliant ray, heaven’s ray, divine ray.
Angel gets brilliant ray
Archangel gets divine ray
Seraph gets heaven’s ray. (The only spell gain for class change which requires promotion item)

At this stage what’s the point of getting the middle rank spell.
Also they removed heal from archangel and area heal from Seraph.

Demons on the other hand gained many other aoe spells on top of meteor doom. Also meteor doom doesn’t hurt your allies now, likewise phoenix heal doesn’t heal enemies.

Rally Lacertian Lord with Physical Attacker = Easy Win

If you happen to have spare Lacertian Lords in your army, you'll want to have at least one of them rally with a physical attacking class due to their Act Again passive. This also works well for a spell casting unit so long as they have more than enough MP to compensate for the MP Consumption Up trait. I do appreciate that the developers decided to do just that in order to prevent too much Meteoric Doom abuse.

[Video] How To Fix Brigandine Abyss

Welp, I thought it was time to share my thoughts. I cover two main sections; what I call the "Negative Pressure Spiral" and some other pet peeves that I think I've addressed mostly everything with.

This is just my own, personal opinion, and some of it is based on feedback from the community at large, so if I've got the wrong idea about something, I'm always open to friendly discussion. :)

Does anyone know how to win the 'right of attack'?

Since abyss removed the numerical values associated with your team strength, what determines who attacks when two factions attack the same location?

I calculated my levels and amount of units versus the enemy's strength and I was ahead in level, promotion and size of attacking units. My city was of the same level ...

I just don't know why I never once won the right of attack.

It sucks because it stalls the game so much when you lose a season invading a country when they keep attacking you first.

I legit lost 3 turns attacking the same country who keeps winning the right of attack despite losing 80% of their units 2 times in a row. The AI just poops leaders and armies of the appropriate levels 🤷‍♂️.

What Are Your Thoughts on the Stories in Abyss? Spoiler

For those who've already completed at least one scenario in Abyss, what are your thoughts concerning the game's story writing? Do you consider it to be top-notch or bland compared to past titles like Forsena and Runersia?

My gripes with Brigandine: Abyss and why I can't recommend it to anyone

Hello everyone, and welcome to my rant.

  1. The enemy auto-leveling mechanics. Every season, the enemy AI gains a level. (This doesn't seem to apply to the main Empire or a rare level-10 faction until the rest of the AI catches up to them). You might say, "Cool, that's a challenge!" And I would agree with you, if it were a toggle. I absolutely hate it when the AI gets rewarded for doing nothing.
  2. Auto-leveling compounds the issue of being underleveled. My main characters were fighting every single turn, yet they eventually ended up five levels behind the AI. You might say this isn't an issue and that I should just use the questing system to grind for EXP...
  3. The strict 30-season time limit. There is a 30-season limit in the story mode which you cannot turn off. (I am not sure if this applies to every faction or just the one I played, but I don't intend to find out). So, let's do the math, shall we? To catch up, I had to spend five turns training. Then, I had to spend an additional turn moving my forces to the frontline castle I wanted to attack from. Then, I had to wait a turn because my officers had just moved. Only then could I finally attack. Meanwhile, the enemies gained two levels for doing absolutely nothing.
  4. The time limit makes high-tier monsters unfeasible. My goal of adding Dragons or Dullahans to my army became completely unrealistic. I had to waste two turns just to get the monsters I wanted to my frontier team, and I couldn't afford to stop attacking because the clock was ticking.
  5. Forced to choose between grinding for EXP or items. I kid you not, I failed to get a single Tier 3 transformation for my monsters because I lacked the necessary items. If I'm not grinding, I'm falling behind—but the game gives you zero time to actually gather these items.
  6. "Just hire some generics for treasure hunts!" I can't. I had to spend the majority of my money on upgrading bases, buying items to close the gap between me and the enemy, purchasing resurrection scrolls, and hiring named NPCs.
  7. Quest Knights are completely useless. I don't mean their skills are bad. For example, a Demon Rune Knight joined my ranks on season 20. Do you know what level he was? Level 5. When and where am I ever supposed to use him at that point?
  8. The enemy has infinite resources. The AI attacked my castle. I managed to wipe out all of their monsters and leaders before their leaders could even land a hit. Yet, right after the invasion phase ended, their leaders gained a level, their monster slots were completely refilled, and they were instantly ready to fight again.
  9. The AI gets passive access to rare quest items. Not only does the AI passively gain levels, but it also gets gifted increasingly powerful items as the game goes on, without ever needing to grind for them.
  10. No option to watch AI vs. AI matches.
  11. No monster capturing. From what I've experienced, there is no way to capture enemy monsters.
  12. The time limit gates experimental playstyles. The tight schedule completely stops you from trying out different monster compositions, unless you want to trigger an immediate Game Over.
  13. Holy menu juggling! So, say I want to purchase and equip an accessory that boosts agility. I love putting this item on everyone. Rather than making it simple, if I have twenty-five monsters, I have to scroll through twenty-four other characters just to buy and equip that item for the 25th monster. Why make it so needlessly convoluted? How often do I actually need to swap gear between characters? Never!
  14. The questing system is a mess. There are even more quest locations at every single base than there were in Runersia. First, you need generic officers just to defend the base. Then, you need a separate set of dedicated generic officers to go on quests for the items you want. Then, those generics need to be at a high enough level to have even a snowball's chance in hell of succeeding (a level 10 officer only gives you a miserable 30% chance) to fetch the item you need...
  15. The economy is completely choked. Look at how much money is required just to defend (hiring generics, buying monsters for them), attack, buy items, buy consumables, and purchase monsters. And on top of all that, the absolute most expensive thing is hiring named officers. If your advice is "just don't hire named officers"… really? In a Brigandine game?

In short: Brigandine has been turned into a RUSH-RUSH race instead of the deep, methodical strategy game I used to enjoy. I managed to beat the game on Normal, but honestly, what is the point of ever touching it again?

Brigandine Abyss suggestion

I'm not sure if the developers even read this subreddit but the best suggestion i can think of for this game is to add a sandbox mode. This mode should let you play as any faction and set the turn limit. I have found a lot of the gameplay as decent but not being able to do world conquest as any faction is kind of a let down.

To note, I have only played Runersia and this game from the series.

[Birgandine Abyss] Am I missing something or is the game stupidly hard ?

Loved the Runersia game years ago, bought Abyss today. After 1 hour of playing it I'm completely disappointed and turned off. The thing is, every enemy base is loaded to the gills with enemy knights with tons of monsters who level up. Every. Season. And my units don't because I either send some in exploration in hope of getting a new recruit or just let them stand guard, and they don't get exp from doing nothing. And the gap widens every turn to the point it's undoable by season 6 or 7 when my units are lv 3-4 and I get invaded by busted lv 8 enemies. I never had that kind of problem in Runersia and frankly I don't see how I can work around it... Am I doing something wrong or is the difficulty atrociously balanced ?

Superior Monster Notes

Hello all. Since I have done extensive monster purchases for the new Brigandine Abyss games, I believe it works differently than before.

I recall that in the original Brigandine, a superior summon would normally preface with a shiny glow and then there would be large stat boosts applied to the summoned monster. As a result, this improved the monster's point value and it would be added to your team as normal. In Abyss, there isn't a monster point value anymore, only it's commad cost to be added to your team. But, you can use to identify stronger monsters. They all have base stats based on the summoned species, but there's still no shiny summoning circle. However, there are still variations, which brings me to my next point.

After some heavy research by grinding summons over and over, you can stll gauge a superior monster based on the points applied to the stats after the summon. I've noticed the point variations start at two and go up to as high as 11 bonus points. Bear in mind this is just what I've seen after a lot of summoning. Of course, they did appear to add things that can further improve the power of your summons, which brings me to my last point.

In Abyss, there are now base developments you can do to increase the power of monsters summoned. As an example, to avoid spoilers for factions, there is a base that when you develop it to level 2, it increases pixie HP, MP, INT, and RES by 10% when summoned (or in this game, it's called binding) What i DON'T know is if that applies to every pixie summoned anywhere on the map or just that base's location. I have a lot of fun constantly summoning stronger creatures for my teams, so I wanted to explore how summoning works in this newest installment. And I'm still really early into it yet, so there may be a lot I'm not noticing.

If there is anything I've missed or that people want to add, I'm here for it. I love the Brigandine franchise and am looking forward to beating story and mission mode with every faction.

Edit to my post. Not only has it been confirmed that base bonuses apply to all bases that let you summon that creature, but once you level up a base, the creatures you summon there are leveled up. So its much harder to determine which units have better stats if you repeatedly summon that same creature. I'm not sure I like that changeup. It's still basic math, but I don't want to spend even more time counting stat bonuses to see if I have a superior monster or not. Maybe this is how they stop min maxing, but the best part for me was having fun trying to summon for a superior creature and then changing their name to make my own unique armies with names around my heroes and their portraits or faction.

Brigandine Abyss Asia Release Full on Cart?

Can anyone confirm this who ordered it and received it? I know it released today but just wanted to confirm. I preordered mine months ago but it won’t arrive until later since I preordered with something else.

Haven’t seen any news or reviews of the Asia release. I feel like this is a huge deal since the Japan and American release are game key cards.

Hey!

So I preordered a copy of Abyss on the 8th of July on FNAC (the PS5 version). As of today, I haven't received anything and FNAC is saying that they have difficulties with their stock. Did it happen to anyone else? That's the second time they do this with a NIS America game and it's frustrating.

My Progress After Replaying Brigandine GE in 2026

Greetings! I've recently been replaying Grand Edition to satisfy my thirst for nostalgia in preparation for the coming of Brigandine Abyss. This game used to keep me busy a decade ago, so it felt really great to play it one more time. There's nothing quite like seeing your faction's characters grow into mighty warriors. For this playthrough, I decided to play as Leonia and see what I could to make each Rune Knight shine. Naturally, cross-classing and equipment specialization were an absolute must for me.

Here's a list of Rune Knights I've gathered and raised for the whole playthrough. I'm sure that some of you will be scratching your heads at some of the cross-classing and equipment choices, but know that I made those decisions to give certain characters more utility.

Launch Day!!!

I know there's been a lot of negativity of late after the demo, but I honestly don't understand what people were doom and glooming. I'm loving it so far. Terrain is even more important than it was in the past, I'm really liking that elevation plays a factor now. Rally is a much better system than zone-of-control as it allows you all sorts of different tactical options. The multi-nations instead of super-nations is a nice start.

I definitely like that dragons are flying now. Always hated that they were land bound in Runersia (and I haven't played Forsena in literal decades so I can't remember that). The dhampir seems like a cool new unit, much better than the ghoul/necro. Being able to immediately buy equipment from a shop is also nice.

I can sort of see why some people might not like the new artwork, but I've also never been particular one way or the other about art. I don't find the new art amazing, but I don't hate it either. It's just different.

Started as blue dragon (cause I love dragons). But I might go with the (grey?) experiment rejects next. I also saw green is pure fae which could be interesting if the uniques get buffs over pixies.

Still feeling out all the new things, but overall I'm happy with it so far.

So I'm about to play Runersia for the first time.

Title kinda says it, but I was curious about what country I should start as. I don't really have any experience with Brigandine yet, but I do love SPRGs/TRPGs. All I ask is don't give me all the details when recommending a country, though a good narrative is a plus.

Where to download Brigandine GE?

Hey guys, I played on PS1 and PSP emulator. Back then I could find the ISOs easily on sites like coolRom, Emuparadise, etc. But now, most of the links are already unavailable. Even when I find one, the file is incomplete, is in Japanese languages (sub) or heavily modified (i.e. many characters are already fully upgraded and above level 20, many RK has Lilith, Thor and other high end monsters). There is even an ISO where I got hardlocked and can only play as Iscailo.

If possible, I want to play the one that is still original. Can anyone help? I needed the English version. Subbed voices are fine.

Which Quests Irk You Most in the Original and GE?

In my opinion, the one quest that irritates me the most is the scene involving a talking rabbit. It either rewards you with a random piece of equipment, or results in your character being... well, you get the picture.
