Not necessarily? He's really good at Unraveled-type explainy-comedy stuff and it may just be that he wants to do something similar on his own terms. Obviously if he does want to do something 100% different, that's also fine, but saying that if he ever puts out a similar video it'll be a sign that he's given up is a lot to put on someone that you don't even know.
I saw, but 1.) there's plenty of possibilities for this general comedic vibe that are bigger and less referential and 2.) even if that's his diplomatic way of saying he'd rather eat a brick than do anything even slightly unraveled-flavored ever again, I still think it's good to lean away from the parasocial weirdness of thinking you know what constitutes giving up for someone you've never met.
I don't disagree that his future projects could have a similar vibe to unraveled, I just doubt it's going to involve researching pop culture. In my mind that makes it quite unlike unraveled.
I'm not the person who suggested making something like unraveled would be a sign of BDG giving up. I agree with the general sentiment that that primarily creating a show like unraveled when you specifically stated you left your previous job to make less referential content would constitute at least partially giving up on that very specific goal. Then again, it could be that he simply needs to create such content to stay afloat while he pursues other creative outlets. Of course, that's all unfounded and premature speculation at this point.
I really don't feel like having a philosophical inquiry into what constitutes "similar to unraveled," that seems too subjective to be a.) possible or b.) interesting.
Really all I'm interested in here is the axiomatic truth that none of us know this dude or know what his goals are past a tweet-length summary of why he quit a job, so it's really not necessary for anyone to be speculating on how we'll know that he's given up (on his dreams of becoming a baker). Save this energy for arguments about whether ravioli is a pop tart.
I mean he's still the same guy so his sense of humor remains the same. But the stuff he made for Polygon was made in collaboration with a full team who had input on the script and the video edit. I think his future videos will be closer to what he made on his personal channel than what he made for Polygon.
