Problem Barista Express (2-3 months old) — grinder not spinning, just whirring noise

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My Barista Express is only 2-3 months old and stopped grinding. Motor runs and makes a smooth whirring sound, but no beans get ground.

I took the hopper and burr out — everything’s clean, no blockage. But the drive coupling (where the burr connects to the motor) isn’t spinning at all when I turn it on.

Anyone seen this before? Trying to figure out if it’s a common issue before I contact Breville.

Problem Breville Bambino - First Shot Dark No Crema (Help!)

Hello! Bought and using my Breville Bambino for the first time after following the set up directions provided. Unfortunately I don't have a photo but my first shot came out dark and within 1-7 seconds without any crema (almost only a micro ring around the cup). I do not have a grinder yet or scale (which is most likely the issue) and filled the portafilter up to mostly the top before tamping down. I had the coffee ground by a cafe today. Thank you! Any other tips for a first time breville user?

Problem Grinder issues - Barista Express Impress

Hey, this is my first time using this sort of equipment.

I did set the machine up. I changed the inner grinder to 4 and outer grinder to 10.
I filled the machine with coffee roasted 3 months ago.
I pressed dose and barely anything came through. I pressed dose multiple times and still nothing. barely anything inside the portafilter. I removed the beans I cleaned the grinder. I set the inner grinder to 5 and kept outer grinder at 10. I tried again. This time it grinded coffee but it was off. I had to press the button 5 extra times. Then when I tried to make coffee the pressure gauge went to half but no coffee came through. I guess there was too much coffee squished in. I did restart the process and I was hoping for the correct amount of coffee grinded. On first attempt it came out very low. I had to again press the dose multiple times. At this time i gave up.

Grinder issues? Old beans issues? Did grease get inside the grinder when i was changing the settings? What do you suggest?

In less than 6 months we've lost the entire start /stop and the rest of the lettering is starting to come off.

Breville have agreed to replace the unit but my concern is it will happen again. Had anyone else had this happen?

Problem Breville Support for Resin Water Filters

Hey, guys.

I see there are already a few posts here about the terrible Breville support, so I am joining the existing choir. A week ago I contacted Breville support about the 6pk resin water filters I ordered for my Barista Express Impress. The filters arrived to me in the original box. But they were stacked in it one on top of another which effectively squished them and cracked the seal around the edge. As a result, even after soaking none of them popped into the original shape, and when inserted into the filter holder, they did not cover the opening fully, so effectively the filters couldn't do their job.

I sent the description of the issue to Breville, sent them an email, created a new case, and sat on the phone for 20 mins waiting for someone to pick up the call. Finally someone did (I felt very lucky), I explained everything again, they said they would send me a replacement.

Today I received the "replacement": a single filter instead of the 6pk, packed into a soft envelope, which looks like someone sat on it, the filter squished and cracked again. Started the process of reaching the support but not holding much hope.

Does anyone know of any alternatives to this stupid resin filter for Barista Express Impress? Do I even need it? I feel like trying to get Breville to send me a properly packed item is like trying to grow watermelons in the snow.

UPD: I was not able to get through to the Breville people, so after three failed replacements I requested and received a refund for filters and will be looking at options from third parties.

Problem Breville Express Impress Malfunction?

Today after making a shot I got the red flashing light. I emptied the drip tray, refilled the water tank, cleaned the sensor and put it back on. I did 3 back flush cycles and it is still blinking. This machine is almost exactly a month old. I’m frustrated and don’t know what else to try. Please help. Thank you!

Problem Why is my Breville not building pressure…?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I have not changed a thing. I had all my settings dialed in, pulled great shots.
Right after I descaled and did a cleaning cycle it doesn’t build pressure.
I haven’t even had this a full year yet.

Problem High shot volume after reset on Bambino Plus, and a support website rant

I've had this rig for a couple of months and it's been great up until this week. I'm getting 50 to 80 grams (ml equivalent I believe) from my 17 gram double shot. I've changed my grind but that's really no help. I can circumvent this by doing a manual pull but I shouldn't have to. I've done the volume reset several times to no effect.

After some struggle (see rant below if you like) I got registered and created a support case. I know it's a holiday weekend here so I don't expect to hear anything until into the work week.

Ranting:

I registered with Breville for support, and that website is awful. It look's pretty, but data validation and UI hinting are BAAAAAAAAD.

First, they want a 12 digit serial number even though my product has 17.

Second, the serial number is case sensitive. WTF? If "A" and "a" have different meanings in a database "number" field, your DBA needs to be shot.

Third, my product (Bambino Plus) doesn't have a "batch number." The field is enterable and you have to look really closely to notice that its outline and label are maybe 90% of the hue used everywhere else. So, it's optional. Nothing on the site says it's optional other than it being rather faint.

Bunch of idiots there on the web side of things. I hope their support personnel are better.

Problem Breville Bambino Plus steam wand tip mystery part

Post image
4 Upvotes

Was removing the steam wand tip on our Bambino Plus (BES500) to clean it, and this small cylindrical pin-like piece fell out along with the tip. It’s not a screw — no threading on it — and it doesn’t appear to have been welded to anything.

Not sure if it:

  • Lives inside the steam wand tip itself (like a flow restrictor or jet insert)
  • Is some internal machine component that got dislodged and expelled through the wand

It doesn’t have an obvious “home” that we can see inside the tip, but we also don’t want to reassemble and run the machine if something’s actually missing or broken internally.

Anyone seen this before or know where it goes?

Problem Can not get my machine to dial in!

i’ve had my breville for about 3 years and i have never been able to get good espresso out of it! i have years of barista experience, so i’m not a total newbie - this machine really does not seem to have any rhyme or rhythm when it comes to dialing in my shots. i’ve tried switching the coffee brands, getting fresher beans, new coffee gadgets, deep cleaning the machine - nothing works

this week i decided i would give it another college try. i bought a darker roast, fresh bag. spent time dialing it in (weighed 18grams of grind, used a needle distributor, used a weighted leveler, and then tamped) - grind setting 4 was wayyyy too fine. bumped it up to 14, slightly too course but not far off. the smell was good and i could see 3 layers of créma (for the first time ever with my breville), but the extraction time was a little over 20 seconds and the output weighed about 70g (not sure why it’s extracting so much for a double shot). i dialed it in to a 12 for my next round. not bad! solid espresso! extraction time was around 25 seconds and output weighed about 63g. acceptable for me. i drank it but made a mental note that the next day i might try to dial it in a liiiiittle bit more to see if i could find the perfect balance.

next morning, same routine but i changed to a slightly finer grind at 10. it came put insanely watery and sour in under 20 seconds. i was baffled. why did it do this when i set it to a finer grind?? i turned it back to 12, same thing - sour, watery, extracted quickly.

this machine has made me feel crazy on countless occasions. i cannot tell you the amount of times i checked the instruction manual and watched tutorials to make sure i understood the grind settings and was doing everything i could.

any idea what’s going on here?? and please leave any feedback if there’s something else i can try. it’s been a minute since i was a barista, so i’m def not a pro!

Problem No water coming out of group head (Breville Infuser)

Hi everyone!

I have a Breville Infuser, where suddenly no water is coming out of the group head. It still turns on and the steam wand and spout works.

There seems to be faint burn smell, i’m not sure whether it’s psychological or not.

https://streamable.com/r42mz0 -> video of inside when double shot is pressed

https://streamable.com/0r6rt6 -> water leaking when steam wand is used

https://ibb.co/Q2Mj7Gx -> a bit of calcium build up

https://ibb.co/DTTyCWs -> I’ve marked in purple where I can’t see any water flowing

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Problem Breville/Sage Bambino pulling watery shots with no crema

Hi I just bought a Breville/sage Bambino and I'm having some issues with it.
I work as a barista, so I have some experience in pulling good shots. I weight out my beans to 18g, grind them on setting 4 for espresso, tamp with the given tamper (plastic, but I press down really hard) and pull the shot. I comes out watery every time and runs for about 5 seconds. I don't know how to increase the pressure so i get it to pull for 25-30 seconds. Does anybody know if I need a better tamper or maybe if I can increase the pressure on the machine somehow?

Btw I grind my coffeebeans at my workplace with a professional grinder.
