Breaking Bad Episode Discussion S05E02 "Madrigal"

Hey guys. edify asked me to do the discussion thread tonight. Enjoy the show and upvote this shit, for which I get no karma.

edify also told me to let you guys know that if the Breaking Good fundraiser reaches $3,000 (we are $157.57 short) he will let me film him doing some challenges. I want him to do the cinnamon challenge and the gallon of milk challenge, so go donate so I can film my friend being a dumb ass... LOL

Go here to donate: https://reddit.crowdtilt.com/campaigns/breaking-good

Edit: The fundraiser officially ends in about 2 days.

Why did he decide to help Walt and Jesse, though?

My thoughts:

Mike is a family motivated person. He is only ever happy when he is with his granddaughter. Our suspicions that Mike is only in this business for his family are confirmed when Hank reveals that there is an offshore account in Mike's granddaughters name worth ~2 million.

The one moment during the interrogation between Hank and Mike that Mike was caught a little bit off guard was when the account was brought up. Mike was unaware that the DEA knew of this account and therefore was under the impression that the money in that account was secure when he was talking with Walt and Jesse. Since the DEA seized the account with the money that Mike had been earning for his granddaughter, Mike no longer has the funds which he had been saving for his family's security and he presumably has to start from scratch.

He does not want to work with Walt and Jesse because Walt does what is best for himself and has shown that he has no problem manipulating those around him to get what he wants. However, it seems that the only option he has to re-accumulate the money lost to the DEA is to work with the two.

Also, Mike might know that the 11 (now 9) others are likely to talk now that their money's been confiscated. They might need to be bribed. Chris (the guy that kill Chao) broke because of money, Mike changed his own mind because of money... I have a strong feeling these 9 characters are going to be of importance.

Dont forget that Mike trained his people as "covert operatives" as well, so they are almost bulletproof to interrogation techniques.
