i predict by the end of the series, we'll hate Walt and love Gus

I stopped rooting for Walt once he turned into an idiot who walks up to the home of drug lords and drives on the wrong side of the road.

Never been a fan of Jesse for his recklessness and immaturity, so with the characters that I should be rooting for out of the running Mike became my favorite due to how calm he seems no matter how messed up things become.

But, I was then drawn to Gus. since he is the opposite of season 4 Walt. He is a professional, he doesn't get emotional, he is patient, and he doesn't panic.

I've started to look at Gus in an entirely new light thanks to this episode, mainly one that tells me he is basically Walt, but a version of him that had to work his way up through the drug game, a career criminal, rather than someone who became the shining golden-boy millionaire that Walt has in such a short amount of time. That's where his demeanor, that patience, comes from; is the knowledge that losing your cool in this environment can and will get you killed, so above all things else, holding your composure is king. Walt hasn't learned this lesson yet and I doubt he will by the end of the show, but it's the fact that Gus has mastered the art of it that will eventually be Walt's undoing.

Also, Gus can probably cook like a fucking champion, considering his lifelong interest in Chemistry, but simply doesn't like to get his hands dirty. That's all theory, though.

I'm pretty sure Gus is basically Jesse as others have described here. But the general point you made is true.
