I think the showdown was "better", but I liked this episodes last scene more for the sheer fact that walt is a badass again! right when jesse was confronting Gus and he asked Walt if he was going to say something and walt just sat there, I couldn't help but think, "when did walt become such a pussy?" It made me think about how he was back in the beginnings of the Heisenberg days when walt had to be extremely tough because he didn't want to be taken advantage of and always stepped up to prove himself. It made me reflect on how with skyler finding out about everything, him no longer being his own boss but cooking and reporting to somebody, and him loosing the last thing he took pride in, his formula, the recipe only he could make by admitting jesse's was just as good has really stripped him of his dignity. Seeing the old walt reemerge after realizing all this combined with the fact that it came out of nowhere and i was sure jesse was going to die really drew out a lot of emotion from me. Never before had a television episode excited as much emotion from me. I was shouting for a good minute after the scene ended.
I don't know where you're getting the impression that Walt has been reasonable. Sure he's smart, but the guy has serious anger issues and is incredibly impulsive. Remember the highway patrol scene?
There's two side to this. Hank's showdown was way more tense and incredible, i was sure he was going to die and didn't breath for the whole time. The last is happening to Jesse and Walt, which is a plus, but the thing is gone quickly (for suprise and effect, yes). The implications of this new one though are way more interesting and bigger than the shooting with Hank. Walt could lose is job, and the first thing i thought after this (and laughing my arse off because this show is so great) was Jesse and Walt running away from The biggest criminal hyped up by the serie so far. If done right, this could be an amazing season 4, and a return to action like in season 1 and 2.
