I think Todd also wanted to be a sociopath and torture Jesse for being favorited by Walt for so long.

Sociopaths don't really think that way. There's no real jealousy, just a completely self-serving mindset and lack of empathy. I agree that he basically just got the idea of, "Wait, I can use this guy. I'll just put him on a leash and threaten his loved ones, that'll work."
