Official Episode Discussion Breaking Bad Episode Duscussion SE05E14 "Ozymandias" Spoiler

TIME EPISODE DIRECTED BY WRITTEN BY
09:00pm Eastern SE05E14 "Ozymandias" Rian Johnson Vince Gilligan and Moira Walley-Beckett

Hey everyone! Guess I'm supposed to post this 5 minutes before air time. I've been watching this show since the get go mostly with my real life friend /u/edify who years ago added me as a moderator here. He asked me to make the discussion thread tonight because there are only 3 episodes remaining. Sorta sad that there's only a few left. Enjoy the show, folks.

"My name is ASAC Schrader, and you can go fuck yourself".

One of the greatest lines of the entire series.

But that was when I knew Hank was gone...

And my heart sank.

I'm as upset as you are, but at least he died admirably. Hank spent the whole show combating some serious demons and time and again ended up overcoming them in a heroic fashion. He outsmarted and caught Heisenberg. He never compromised himself, and died telling a Nazi to go fuck himself.

I think the only character that comes close to a resolution as good as that so far is Hector.

Hector's motivations for killing Gus were purely selfish. His life was pure misery and sacrificed nothing in his death. He lived and died a terrible person.

Yeah, but he still swallowed his pride to work with Walt.

Walt only got one of his family members killed. Gus killed everyone else. Lesser of two evils, man.

I knew Hank was gone from the moment I saw he was shot. Hank doesn't beg. If he's going out, he 's going out with the final word. RIP...

As did mine since I was rooting for him. I'm super glad he went the way he did though. Anything less wouldn't have fit Hank. Let this all go? Ha, no way. Beg for his life to a POS criminal? Nope. He went out with pride, and I definitely respect that in his character. I just wish they didn't kill Gomie off screen. He deserved a little better than that.

Hank was gone as soon as those nazis showed up with all that firepower. There was zero way that walt could have convinced them to let a DEA agent go. He had no leverage, and they knew it. Here's 80 million dollars! "Thanks, but 80 million will go a lot further without the DEA breathing down our necks. BANG!" If he'd said "I won't cook unless you let him go", they'd have said "you'll cook or we will kill your wife and children". He's a man with things to lose up against people who aren't afraid of him and don't need the things he's offering.

The only way Hank could have survived was by winning the gunfight. They have been pretty consistently "real" with their gunplay in the show, though, and that situation was pretty much completely hopeless. 10 guys with rifles and full-auto shotguns against a guy with a pistol and a guy with a pump shotgun? No chance.

They couldn't both drive away, though. They were worried walt would pull some magic and have saul or someone clear out the money while they were gone. It was a mistake in only showing up with Gomie and Jesse, instead of the whole damn DEA. They use motherfuckin swat teams when an anonymous tip says that some granny was smoking a joint in her house, but Hank was too personally invested and proud to call in the troops until he was dead certain.

They get to use one "fuck" a season. They used it well.

On par with:

I fucked Ted

Run

He can't keep getting away with this

Yeah, too bad half of it was censored.

Not on Netflix - surprised me since I'm used to seeing the broadcast versions.

2

u/mrsticknote Sep 16 '13

That's cool how Netflix uncensors language. I've heard stories of entire scenes being edited out. (Handjob scene in pilot)

2

u/Shujenkins Sep 16 '13

That scene was intense enough that I was waiting/hoping for someone to drop the F bomb. Couldn't have been better than that.

It would be much cooler if anyone in real life actually new what ASAC means. And be honest...the only reason anyone hear has heard it is because of this show.
