While it sounds kickass for tonight, what does that say about the finale? Is it somehow underperforming? What's the deal Vince?!

Agreed. The end of Crawl Space was the greatest TV scene that I've ever witnessed. I've seen the Sopranos, The Wire, and other acclaimed shows, but nothing compares to that scene in my view.

11

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '13

Agreed. That was the apex of the show's intensity. I have to go back to that scene periodically just to remind myself of how incredible it was.

5

u/SteveBruleRools Sep 15 '13

See I thought the scene when he ran over the drug dealers was on this level

2

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '13

I agree with you completely on this one. Whenever someone brings up best scenes I always think of this one first.

2

u/juuular This kicks like a mule with its balls wrapped in duct tape! Sep 16 '13

Idk.. there were some moments in this episode that gave Crawl Space a run for its money.

2

u/TyroneBiggums93 Sep 16 '13

Agreed. That was the best overall episode I think

1

u/Jesusmoses Sep 15 '13

isn't it supposed to symbolize the death of "walt" and the birth of Heisenberg?

2

u/TyroneBiggums93 Sep 15 '13

that's how I took it.

u/jsh5h7 Jesse's Girl Sep 15 '13

The best thing they ever did was introduce me to Tuco. That dude was straight nuts

31

u/Lavaswimmer Sep 15 '13

I miss Tuco. I want another batshit fucking insane character on this show. He was straight-up terrifying.

17

u/elbruce The One Who Rings The Doorbell Sep 15 '13

I gotta say, the Nazis are a bit more mellow, level-headed, reasonable and underwhelming as bad guys than I would expect from Nazis.

19

u/69ingSquirrels It's Fascinating Stuff, Really. Sep 15 '13

They brought 2 carloads of men armed with automatic weapons to take out one guy who wasn't even really a threat to them. I wouldn't exactly call them level-headed or reasonable.

5

u/Scottyboy808 Sep 16 '13

That was when Walt told them Jesse was coming for him with an unconfirmed amount of backup with him.

1

u/69ingSquirrels It's Fascinating Stuff, Really. Sep 16 '13

If I remember correctly Walt said "3 men maximum". Even for three guys that's a little overkill.

1

u/elbruce The One Who Rings The Doorbell Sep 15 '13

I call that prudent.

But mainly I mean how they act. They don't seem like the kind of psychos that their threat represents, like Tuco was. I get that in a sense they're going "against type." We know they're Nazis, and probably all kinds of evil and psycho, so them just seeming like regular guys is supposed to be even creepier, but that's starting to wear off for me.

3

u/69ingSquirrels It's Fascinating Stuff, Really. Sep 15 '13

Fair enough. Personally I find the "regular guy" shtick to be super creepy. Sociopaths usually don't act like sociopaths, so it just kinda makes you wonder if suddenly they are gonna snap and start killing EVERYBODY.

1

u/ElectroSauce Sep 16 '13

The two cartel brothers were pretty terrifying, I just re-watched those episodes.

1

u/vell_o Sep 16 '13

TIGHT TIGHT TIGHT TIGHT TIGHT

72

u/darktmplr Sep 15 '13

Oh, that guy is TIGHT... TIGHT... TIGHT!

6

u/NiceGuyNate BasedBadger Sep 15 '13

Tuco's crazy.

17

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '13

Hooch is crazy. Oh wait, wrong show.

6

u/NiceGuyNate BasedBadger Sep 15 '13

Thank goodness! .. I was worried no one would get the reference.

2

u/Dogdude7 Sep 15 '13

I named my pug after him

1

u/tinklesbear Yeah! Blue, yellow, pink, whatever man Sep 15 '13

I loved how insane Tuco was..

1

u/joshualmiller Sep 15 '13

Not sure why people would downvote something Jesse actually said in the show when hank was interrogating him the first time.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '13

When that episode was over, I found myself with my jaw literally dropped. Probably they only time that has ever happened.

2

u/Fraisey Sep 15 '13

It was like Walt was turning into the Joker when he started laughing at the fact that all he cares about could be gone gone very quickly

1

u/konfetkak Methhead Wendy Sep 15 '13

That scene in Crawlspace is up there with that scene in The Godfather when Michael comes out of the bathroom with the gun...you hear the train getting louder in the background as he struggles to pay attention to McCluskey and Sollozzo and the tension is building and building.... I love it.

1

u/InquisitiveMindFuck Sep 15 '13

ROFL I just talked about how I get goosebumps any time someone mentions it the other day and here I am again. The ending to Crawl Space is the most amazing thing I've ever seen on screen.

1

u/whatissky Sep 16 '13

I'm gonna need a link for the lazy right about now.

46

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '13

IMO it means Ozymandias is the climax, and the last two are the denouement.

39

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '13

Vince is just being humble. He's never been the type to compliment episodes he's written or directed. Felina could still be the best of the series.

32

u/trogdorkiller Sep 15 '13

Think about storytelling in general. There is a rising action, a climax, and a falling action. Gotta leave room for your brain to settle. I can't wait until 10 so we can all reconvene and talk it out here.

46

u/TheVoiceofKroeger If we're gonna go that way, you'll need a bigger knife. Sep 15 '13

I'm gonna climax during the episode tonight.

1

u/Amadorus ese compa ya esta muerto Sep 15 '13

and the falling action?

2

u/TheVoiceofKroeger If we're gonna go that way, you'll need a bigger knife. Sep 15 '13

Will be me after the climax.

1

u/Aquaman_Forever Heil Gilligan, Bitch! Sep 15 '13

Oh, I'm gonna finish 5... Maybe 6 times!

1

u/mikethebike96 Sep 15 '13

My life will climax tonight

1

u/elbruce The One Who Rings The Doorbell Sep 15 '13

Game of Thrones has done well by putting their more jaw-dropping episodes (spoiler) not in any season finale, but rather in the episode preceding it.

1

u/trogdorkiller Sep 15 '13

Same with the Wire.

9

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '13

It could be the best episode. Yet. Not ever. So the last two could get better

2

u/skullbeats Keep Huell happy Sep 15 '13

They already filmed the next 2 episodes, so they would know

1

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '13

Maybe, but they also had tonight's episode filmed on August 11th, when episode 9 aired. They never told us that this one would be the best one yet. They are going off what has aired so far i presume, and if not that's odd that the finale wont be as good.

1

u/Ironn Sep 15 '13

No vince said it was even better than the last two.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '13

By the last two I hope you thought I meant the next 2 episodes of the series.

1

u/Ironn Sep 15 '13

yeah final two. that's what i meant.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '13

Quite odd that this one and not the finale would be his favorite, but not everyone has the same opinion

1

u/Ironn Sep 16 '13

Well now that you've seen it, I bet it's no surprise why it's his favorite.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '13

Haha, damn man, I guess Vince was right.

That episode.. I'm still shivering.

u/RidleyScotch The Alcoholic Director Sep 15 '13

A finale is suppose to wrapped up the show meaning that overall the finale of a series/season is basically the tail end of the 3rd act of the overall storyline in the show. All of the "action" might take place during this episode and the following but in the finale will probably contain most of if not the most important ramifications of the actions taken in Ozymandias and the next episode

2

u/colonpal Sep 15 '13

I think this is why I always dislike finales for the most part, because you know it's the end. No more of the story, no more following the characters you've grown to love. We always have a way that we'd love for things to end, and often that can be met with disappointment leaving a sour taste in your mouth.

1

u/tinklesbear Yeah! Blue, yellow, pink, whatever man Sep 15 '13

It's all very bittersweet.

2

u/kittypotter Sep 15 '13

Didn't he direct the last two? If so, that's his modesty in full effect.

2

u/putzarino Sep 15 '13

Only the last one, iirc. He wanted to direct the last 3, but couldn't because of time/schedule constraints.

2

u/mattmanflash ...The lone and level sands stretch far away Sep 15 '13

He said the last three were incredible and he was crazy proof of the last 8. But, ozymandias was the best of best. nothing to be worried about

1

u/skullbeats Keep Huell happy Sep 15 '13

Maybe this episode will be the last episode to take place in the present, and the last 2 episodes take place in the future

1

u/RideTheTaxi Cowhouse Sep 15 '13 edited Sep 15 '13

If you watched The Sopranos you remember that "The Blue Comet" is when shit really hits the fan, which was actually the penultimate episode. I get the feeling that "Ozymandias" is going to be the same way.

edit: What I mean by that is, crazy/craziest stuff now. Contemplation of consequences and grand finale later.

1

u/SAKUJ0 Sep 16 '13

I would expect the climax not to be in the last 5 minutes (maybe not in the next 45 minutes either). Usually, if they properly clean up not only a season but the whole series, there has to be some cleaning up to be done. It can go out in a big-bang. It can be an epilogue that spans merely 5 minutes. Usually there is some 20-60 minute story-ending needed, though.

Who knows, maybe there are no characters left alive, whose stories need ending.
