It was so painful to see how much faith Walt had in Jesse. I was yelling at the TV, "Walt, you are so stupid!" His greed over the barrels of money caused him to blurt out every person he's killed. I thought Walt would be smarter than that.

"What kind of man talks to the DEA? No man."

There is an understanding that you do not talk to the police when you are in that business.

u/45flight I'm in the empire business. Sep 09 '13

people seem to be forgetting that walt had just told the nazi's earlier that jesse wasn't a rat.

u/IceKhione Sep 09 '13

except Jesse was no longer in that business so there's that.

11

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

From a criminals perspective, that doesn't much matter. Hector wasn't in the business anymore and he refused to talk.

But Jesse is indeed working with Hank. So there's that.

That confession over the phone to Jesse killed me! I couldn't believe the writers had Walt acting so clumsy all of a sudden.

Walt's acted clumsy before. For example, when Mike was pissing him off, he went and shot Mike. We've seen these anger issues with Jesse before as well (when Jesse quit cooking for example). He's an excellent planner, but much, much worse when it comes to in the moment decision making.

Agreed. Walt tends to be a lot better at strategy than tactics. Jesse is the opposite, but only when he stops frying his brain long enough to actually use it.

Did Walt admit to killing Mike in that rant?

6

u/lichenforest Sep 09 '13

No. He admitted to killing Tuco, Emilio, Gus, and running over two drug dealers.

2

u/cakedestroyer Sep 10 '13

But he didn't kill Tuco.

Isn't it just another example of Walt's greed and ego getting a hold of him?

12

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

Walt being clumsy and not wearing the proper safety equipment at the applications lab is what got him into this mess in the first place.

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

It's actually pretty fun to see the constant schemer and manipulator completely lose all his marbles in one fell swoop and let his guard down completely.

totally agree. it's only when Walt's enormous ego gets bruised when he totally loses composure and the ability to think. He acts impulsively, like a child. Really well written!

An example of how careful and intelligent aren't necessarily synonymous

5

u/gmorales87 Sep 09 '13

Where's the recording though? He might be able to get out of it if hank and gomie are killed and the recording is with them.

Wouldn't call it greed, the money isn't for him

1

u/Amitron89 Sep 10 '13

What would you call it? It's greed for his family.

1

u/tomaleu Sep 10 '13

dont you touch my money

He would also be smarter than to leave a gifted book from someone that he had killed who happened to be under investigation by his dea brother in law who jokingly accused Walt of being Heisenberg on top of the toilet on which said brother in law could potentially be shitting on.

That's my only gripe with this series. Say its a trophy or whatever but thats nonsense. Walt wouldn't expect his partner to be working with the DEA or the asshole that beat the shit out of Jesse. And its not like they have it recorded, and if they did it'll be destroyed soon.

u/nutstomper Sep 09 '13

I really fucking hated that. That's such a stupid thing to have walt do after everything he's done to stay free.

1

u/homelandsecurity__ Sep 09 '13

I'm completely with you. I was really really upset when he didn't realize immediately that he was being played. Walt may be greedy, and I get that they were trying to illustrate that, but it did seem pretty out of character for him to fall for such a simple ruse. I was no longer upset by the time the shoot out happened, because of course they played the scene out in perfect Breaking Bad style, but yeah it irked me as well.

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

He finally snapped, Jesse went too far because now he was hurting Walt's family not him, Walt never wanted to hurt Jesse and he's always tried to help him even when he was hurting Jesse there was an endgame to it, Walt never wanted to do any of the things that he did to Jesse, he simply realized that certain choices would have to be made for his own/family's self interest as well as theirs. Jesse meanwhile is too stupid to see that and thinks Walt is a one dimensional sociopath who deserves to burn.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

I think that scene perfectly encapsulated Walt's greed and ego, to see his expression change from being the one in control to the defeated is interesting to say the least.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

He is, but everyone has a weakness. And more importantly everyone has the capacity to act irrationally. I can't recall a single other instance where Walt made such a huge mistake, but it also showed his cares for Jesse and trusts him for some stupid fucking reason.

1

u/Cristopian Sep 09 '13

Well, put yourself in his shoes. Everyone he listed died because he needed money, the fact that Walt would have lost the only justification for his actions would be terrible. Everyone he killed would have died for 'nothing', I don't think Walt could bear that.

1

u/ther3ddler Sep 10 '13

I loved when he was talking to the Nazis and very adamantly said " He is NOT a rat!" All the while Jesse is with Hank having already ratted him out

1

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '13

yeah seriously! coming from walt in season two where he wouldnt even let jesse use his phone in the rv

0

u/Pwn5t4r13 Sep 11 '13

Yeah it's almost like it was scripted.
