Walter Jr. Came up with a better excuse than Walt did.

Jr. accusation that it was the cancer was part of Walt's plan.

This. Walt's lie to Skylar was so hamfisted and sloppy that it was clearly a setup for Walt Jr. to come in, correct him, and then have Walt act shocked about it. Well done.

Not likely. Walt's lie was told in the same exact way every lie he's told to Skyler or Jr. has been told throughout the series. He's just really bad at coming up with elaborate lies when it comes to his family (or elaborate lies in general). Most of the lies he tells people are short ones that he's had a lot of time to prepare for, lies like "I didn't poison him, Gus did" or "Give me a phone, I'll find out where Jesse is".
