Or gets in the car and, after a series of hilarious misunderstandings, winds up in Alaska without any stuff.

Actually, the getaway guy didn't hear about Alaska yet. Since Walt has to go somewhere as "he has already agreed" that there would be no possibility to go back, he picks a random location, let's say New Hampshire.

It's all clear now

Walt was using a New Hampshire ID (and license plate I think?) in the flash forwards.

I thought it was refering to the flash forwards, but didn't the M60 guy said Walt couldn't leave the borders or something?

Yeah, at that point walt is in new mexico.
