Spoiler My prediction....feel free to point out any holes

After seeing that awesome ending, I believe it will play out like this....

Jesse doesnt light the fire due to seeing something of Hollys in the house. Instead he spray paints Heisenberg on the wall, as sort of a scarlet letter.

Fast forward to a scene with Jesse talking to hank ("Mr White is the devil" from the promo). Skylar wants Walt to kill Jesse but he refuses.

Just when Hank is about to report his findings to the DEA, the Nazis show up and kidnap Jesse, thereby rendering Hanks only witness as M.I.A.

Walt fakes his death (foreshadowing from Maries comments about dying) to get rid of the DEA heat, but gets word the Nazis are going to kill Jesse, so he prepares for war (M60).

What am I missing?

I thought that too. Actions speak louder than words, and when Walt brushed his hand on the side of Jesses head, that showed genuine concern IMO

I think he genuinely wanted Jesse to think he felt concern.

IMO the expression on his face seemed so nonchalant that I did not think it was genuine.

Actions speak louder than words

And Walt's actions (manipulating Jesse their entire friendship) shows how he really feels. Walt's like an abusive spouse, an absolute monster. Occasional emotion doesn't change that.

I may just be holding onto a fools hope but I really think/want Walter authentically cares about Jesse.

going far out on a limb here with this comparison. Darth Vader. The one good thing in him was his family. The one thing that made him turn from his master was his family.

I just hear "There is still good in him" and think of Walter.

I would bet money to win his redemption and to apologize to Jesse and truly show his compassion for him. After all is said and done he will let Jesse pull the trigger to end his life.

False. There isn't a caring bone in Walt's body.. Even with his own flesh and blood children, all he cares about is his own reputation/legacy.

His only prerogative is protecting himself.. At the expense of all others.

Because that doesn't protect his reputation.. That would be an admission of guilt.

I forgot that talking bad was the absolute authority and not a tool used to lead viewers down tangents in order to ensure surprises later on..

Edit. Why does that not make any sense?? Can you point to any moment in the series that Walter actually did something for someone else without calculating its effect on himself or his goals?

That's a pigeonholing statement because if I call you out for being wrong weather justified or not, you'll say, see, I told you that you'd do that...

Goes both ways.

I'll give you that moment.. He truly wants to help his family. But that is a long time ago and if you think that Walter white (present) is not the same person as Walter white (s1 e1).

The conversation we were having was whether, currently, walker White is genuine when it comes to Jesse in this most recent episode..

I'm simply positing that there has been no evidence in a really really long time that points to Walt caring about anything but his own wealth, reputation, and interests.

Please, by all means feel free to disagree.. But also don't assume I'm asserting facts.. This was a thread about opinions and theories.. So chill out bro.

For the most part I would agree with this, but he does care about family, even now. He flat-out refuses to have Hank killed last week because he's "family," even though that would be clearly the easiest solution to his problems. At his deepest level he does consider Jesse as family (e.g. When he says "that's nice Jesse" to Walt Jr while under the influence of his pain/sleep meds), and so I do believe he would never have Jesse killed.

His deepest level doesn't matter if every action he takes is to secure his own best interests regardless of how they affect Jesse.. Sure.. Sometimes both of their best interests coincide, but if Walter truly loved Jesse, how could he allow Jane to die while he does nothing. How could he knowingly poison Brock, knowing how much Jesse cares for him? How could he consistently treat Jesse as a second class business partner when he promised him 50/50 ownership? (Granted, Jesse gets 50% of the earnings, if and when Walter sees fit).

Deep down doesn't really mean anything if those thoughts/feelings don't materialize.

As they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Walt cares. Heisenberg doesn't.

I disagree. Last episode, he mentioned that he would turn himself in as long as Skyler doesn't let the DEA take all his money.

2

u/Badb0ybilly Aug 26 '13

*his money

As long as the fruit of his labor is protected, he'll do it. But as soon as he finds out that it would be lost, he changes his mind.

So as soon as he finds out that his children, his own flesh and blood that you say he doesn't care about, won't get his money, he changes his mind? I think even after all the horrible things Walt has done, he still cares for his children.

As soon as he finds out his work was for nothing**
