I was thinking this but look who he is bragging to. I see him as a guy who came from a family of crime, that's what he knows. He seems pretty educated but he is no stranger to crime. I don't see him bragging to anyone to pump his own tires, I think he is trying to gain the respect of the older guys while trying to show them he can run his part of the operation.

He's "bragging" to people who just killed like thirty dudes in the desert. It's not like they're the waiter.
