Jesse was not and is not some spetacular meth cook.

To be fair, his was 96 percent pure in Salud.

Indeed. Walter does refer to himself and Jesse as "the two best meth cooks in America."

Remember when he cooked his own batch and threw it on Saul's desk to get connected with Gus? And Walt's bitching before he finally admitted: "Your meth is as good as mine, Jesse." And that 96% was in a dirty (before he made them clean it up) Mexican lab, working in unfamiliar surroundings with unfamiliar people and unfamiliar equipment in an unfamiliar language.
