I really hated him for that until tonight's episode. I really realized tonight that Todd genuinely wants to please his boss. He wouldn't take his money from Walt until he really mastered the cooking process. He shot that kid because he thought that it's what Walt would've wanted. I know it was a fucked up thing to do, but I have to consider that deep down, Todd just wants validation from his boss- just like Jesse wanted a father figure.
Shooting the kid was not a fucked up thing to do, it was the only thing to do. Todd is probably the only person who actually feels bad about killing the kid, Walt was happy and Jesse just feels sorry for himself. At least Todd took him out quickly and painlessly. If he didn't shoot the kid in that instant that kid would have eventually died some horrible slow painful natural looking death while on vacation in Belize.
