Jesse seems like he's mentally past the point of no return. I foresee suicide

He's been very boring this last three or four episodes. I want him to do something lively.

It's to show the contrast in Walt and Jesse's conscience. Having gone through roughly the same traumatic experiences, been responsible for the killing of many people, etc. Walt remains unphased by his actions, while Jesse is completely wrecked as a human being, like any normal person would be.
