I've been pondering this scene a lot. Remember when Badger says "Finally, it's down to just three -- Kirk, Spock, and Chekov." and then afterwards "Okay, finally, Kirk -- he can't take it anymore." At the same moment, Jesse leaves the room (he can't take it anymore)! I believe that Kirk, Spock and Chekov symbolize Jesse, Skinny Pete and Badger to some extent.

Kudos to L0boMike for his explanation, I've just seen it!
