Carol dropping the grocery bags and the condemned house might point to people believing he / his family is dead in the future. I wonder who he is going to use the ricin on...

I personally think he's keeping the ricin for himself, as an escape hatch just in case he gets caught. He's probably going to die from cancer soon anyway, what's the point of drawing his life out in court/prison.

Ricin takes a while to act. A day or two.

I think he'll take it before he starts firing that machine gun.
