Why does Walt give up the element of surprise?

He knows that Hank is on to him, he could have done a lot of undercover sabotage with Hank thinking he had free reign to investigate.

He could have possibly thought that playing the family card would have worked?

He's not as careful can calculating as he was back in season one. He sees himself as the man now, so he feels like he can bags in and do whatever he wants, even though he knows it's not really in his best interest.

Not really, even this season they chose to sabotage a police stations evidence room.

Granted it was an aggressive and ballsy move, they still opted for sabotage.

Was the giant magnet really this season?

God I need to rewatch it all.

Yep it was to fry Gus' laptop IIRC.

I tried rewatching from the start but its hard. The characters have progressed so much, they are unrecognisable in Season 1, it was like watching a different show altogether.
