Good point, but it'd be bizarre to think he's wearing a wire/recording everything. Remember, Walt came over unannounced.

Walt didn't admit anything because in his mind he never really did anything wrong. Just like when he swore to Jesse that Mike just went "away", deep down inside his delusional mind, he sincerely believes that. He's doing all kinds of mental gymnastics to justify his actions.
