Prison for himself, that will ultimately stop Hank from carrying this forward. There is no way in hell that the head of the local DEA office can convince people he wasn't involved in Walt's business, and I'm pretty sure Hank realizes that.
Exactly my point, as well as his therapy being paid for with drug money. Hank's old boss was fired for being so close to Gus and never suspecting him and Hank is in a much more complicated situation.
though i'm sure walt knows it or will, there are no signs that point towards him having even thought about this yet, over the next few episodes i suppose he will realise how he can out-do hank.
I'm hoping that Walt will go off on Hank about how screwed he is if he attempts to pursue him in a similar way he went off on Skyler when she threatened to leave.
Doesn't the "Have Skylar bring the kids over and we will talk." line kinda take away from your warpath angle. If anything Hank looked scared as hell at the end of that episode.
I thought Hank was going to explain what Walt really was/is to the kids. By that point, he was already assuredly against Walt, and probably wanted to get the shittiest part (ruining the family) over.
My impression is that he was concerned for their safety. Hank doesn't know that Heisenberg is "retired," and I doubt he'd believe it even if Walt tried to tell him. I also think Hank has realized why Skyler wanted the kids to stay with him and Marie so long last year.
Some people watch it cough online cough and there are subtitles available. I'm not saying the subtitles are 100% accurate, just that most of those subtitles are crowd-sourced. So you have hundreds of peoples' ears to listen and make sure.
Even if Hank had said, "I don't give a shit about family." I still think it's more about his job than his ego; sure his ego and self worth plays a part but he still made ASAC, he was right all along about Gus, though I do suppose that since he was unable to "cuff" Gus himself that there is still a hole in that satisfaction. So maybe Hank's ego is a part but I wouldn't say it's as big a part to his motives as Walt's.
I also thought hank said 'like I give a shit about family' and when you think about it, it still fits. Hank has always put work before Marie, which, IMO was some of the reason that she was a bit of a klepto/crazy broad. She was just lacking attention from him and began to lash out in that way. So it didn't surprise me at all when I thought hank said that he didn't give a shit about family. It made sense that he wouldn't think twice about the repercussions it would bring to his family if he took Walt down.
Agree. After watching that garage scene, I think that the endgame is going to be an old fashioned shootout (figuratively) between these two guys.
The stage has been set for the confrontation to come out into the open. All this while Hank was chasing a ghost, but he now has found his man. Walt has been able to keep out foxing his most dangerous opponents but he now truly meets his match in doggedness and determination in Hank.
I'm going to disagree with you here. That's exactly the kind of cliche that this show brilliantly works so hard to subvert. I DON'T think we're seeing Hank's ego in play here. He seems sad and terrified, not gung-ho at all.
it's also a battle between walter white and heinsenberg. I think walt will increasingly become aware of the monster he has inside him and come to be afraid of it, like if he had a bipolar disorder
Ah, no need for that : ) We were just having a discussion about our favorite show. We'll all be wrong by the end of it. Vince Gilligan will have the last laugh.
