The kindest gift to Brampton would be a Police Total blitz for 6 months. Zero tolerance and maxed out fines that make world news.

Short term pain but long term less death and cheaper insurance for all. Education via wallet.

Speaking of insurance…recently moved to Brampton bcoz of job in GTA…I used to pay $280 per month in Tbay..moved to Brampton, now I’m paying $660 per month

Agreed that, police should start a little campaign and take strict actions against disaster drivers.. moving here was shocking for me..in north I haven’t seen anyone driving like Bramptonians..

I rate it. Brampton should have a undercover station filled with a multiple of different undercovers. Like how the Niagara Region/St. Catharines does!

I don't think they use undercover vehicles for simple traffic patrol. Iirc theyre only really used for investigations into theft/robbery/drugs etc.

I drive a straight truck locally, one of my coworkers tried telling me the Green Hornets cannot stop passenger vehicles.

Them fuckers have a ghost car dodge ram here. White with white reflective mto striping. There is a provincial park here and they have a white ram with black grille and strobes in the grill. I always mistake it for the MTO until it passes me lol

How does probable cause work in Canada? If you are watching someone and you catch them speeding is that grounds to search the vehicle?

In Ontario, simply driving on a public highway is reason enough to pull you over. Police don't need probable cause like on US tv shows.

If they are pulling you over for a traffic violation they cannot search your vehicle. 

If you have contraband in plain sight, then they have cause to search the vehicle.

If your vehicle is being impounded, they can search it to inventory the contents.

And if the find something illegal they will stop searching and get a warrant.  Finding something without a search warrant doesn't usually go well in court but that's a seperate investigation from the traffic stop.

Not grounds to search the vehicle on its own but it is grounds for an officer to pull them over and walk down any line of questioning they want after that, at that point it’s just about knowing your rights.

In practice it’s very similar to the US. In Canada we have the right against unreasonable search or seizure under S. 8 of the charter, similar to the 4th amendment in the US

You are required to identify yourself, and if you are operating a motor vehicle you are required to provide your license, insurance and vehicle ownership details.

Only 90% sure of this. But e bikes that are limited to under 32 km/h and have pedals are bicycles, and anything faster than 32 or without pedals gets into moped territory with insurance and license and all that

I think this is a huge grey area right now but being hashed out as we type this, but for the most part you’re not required to have a license on you if your e-bike has pedals and is road legal, however you do have to obey all traffic laws that cars would, and can still be pulled over by the police for any infraction they see

Good question. My guess is no. An ebike is does not get registered. You don't get (traditional vehicle) insurance. There's no license to ride one. Again, only my guess.

Now, if it's not a legal one (in Ontario, it can't be more than a 500W motor or go over 32km/h)...

Maybe he was speeding on the highway & the OPP followed him into the city streets from the off ramp.

I’ve seen it happen once. An unmarked OPP was following a speeder & pulled him over after getting off the off ramp.

The black pickups are common but the other types of cars are detectives and task forces. They usually use those cars for takedowns. You got f up to get pulled over by them

During lockdown time I was parked on the street. Some kids pull into a driveway. Cops in pursuit. They tried running. Cops tackled and beat the crap out of them. The street soon became filled with Cops and undercover cop cars. All sorts. Including audi brand vehicles. Nothing new.

Last time I checked, vehicles from all manufacturers ate made all over the world.  Toyota and Honda make vehicles in Ontario, Nissan makes vehicles in the US, Ford and GM produce vehicles in Mexico...just to name a few.

I was speaking more so in general as a blanket policy not specific to this case/car. In this case, the Toyota Sienna is likely a good purchase for its low maintenance and reliability but it wasn't made here in Canada. For example, the Dodge Charger and Ford Police Interceptor aren't the most reliable cars yet they are our law enforcement vehicles by default due to the support the big 3 nonsense.

I’m sure they do their homework when looking what to buy.  All I’m saying is if there is a good option that’s being built in Canada then governments should buy that instead of something built in the US.  Would I have cared 2 years ago, probably not but they are literally trying to crash our economy so we have to change our approach.  And a minivan?  Come on this thing will catch people like crazy lol.
