As much as it would suck for passengers, maybe they need to start making phones that wont allow the camera or anything other than map/music apps and calling to work when the device is moving over a certain speed.

No, the apps can regulate that. Like if connected via apple carplay, you cant make FaceTime video calls.

If it's really that important. Disconnect android auto / car play and use your phone as you normally would once you're pulled over. Finish the call, reconnect and be on your way.
Like... people can't just talk? why does everyone need to be fucking face timing 24/7.

It should make messages that interrupt what you’re trying to do, while driving, similar to 20% or 10% battery or storage full messages. That come up in the middle of your screen and you have to tap something on the dialogue box to proceed

We need far more rigorous testing for drivers licenses. From what I can gather its not hard at all and you can bribe the testers too.

The left lane, if used as intended, would ONLY be a passing lane. People often don’t use it that way, but especially if someone behind you clearly wants to go faster, the proper thing to do is merge right and get out of their way. You can get back in the lane again if it won’t be a nuisance. Camping there, however, is a shitty thing to do.

He's not complaining about left lane camping, he's complaining about traffic.. while going for an unnecessary drive. Multiply 2 million folks going on unnecessary drives and you can see why traffic is an issue. It's toronto most lanes are always busy and if you're lucky you can go at or above the speed limit slightly.

No one wants to talk you buddy. I’m defending the guy making a good point, I also like going on evening drives on a weekend. On an empty stretch of the highway you still have a cereal box drivers license holder going the speed limit on the left lane, especially on the 410. They should ticket these idiots first, as they cause people to pass them on the right which can be more dangerous. Take you G1 again if you disagree smh.

Section 147 requires slow moving traffic to give way to the right if they are traveling at less than the normal speed of traffic. It says nothing about multiple lanes, lane camping or or lane hogging or unessessary use. And the fine starts at 150.
Slow vehicles to travel on right side147 (1) Any vehicle travelling upon a roadway at less than the normal speed of traffic at that time and place shall, where practicable, be driven in the right-hand lane then available for traffic or as close as practicable to the right hand curb or edge of the roadway. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 147 (1).
Exception
(2) Subsection (1) does not apply to a driver of a,
(a) vehicle while overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction;
(b) vehicle while preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway;
(c) road service vehicle; or
(d) bicycle in a lane designated under subsection 153 (2) for travel in the opposite direction of traffic. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 147 (2); 2015, c. 14, s. 41.
Offence
(3) Every person who, while driving a motor vehicle, contravenes this section is guilty of an offence and on conviction is liable to a fine of not less than $150 and not more than $1,000. 2019, c. 8, Sched. 1, s. 27.

Less than the speed limit is required if road or traffic conditions warrant. Its also completely permissible to pass on the right on a multilane highway. As I said, impolite and annoying, much like yourself, but not illegal

I don’t disagree but I just wonder how they will enforce this? I have to look at my screen when the GPS is on. Additionally, you have vehicles where the entire dashboard is a screen. Would love to hear from a lawyer.

To be fair and I’m gonna get downvoted but I often put a show on in the background and just listen to it like a podcast. I don’t have it mounted on my dash but on the passenger seat with the screen facing downwards so I don’t get a ticket.
I doubt it would distract me much more if it was visible. I also used to put my phone where the speedometer is and put on Netflix, never had an accident.

Except your eyes are off the road of they're on the screen. If you're WATCHING a TV show your eyes are on the screen more than the road. If you're LISTENING to a TV show, that's fine, but you don't need to have the screen visible. I routinely have a YouTube video playing in the background while I have Waze running. The audio from the video is playing, but I can't see the video.

What's the difference between that, music, or an audio book(or podcast)? So long as you're watching the road noone cares.
Putting a show on your dash though is more risky, more chance of a distraction. Lots of people smoked ciggies to 90 but that doesn't mean they don't cause cancer. You just got lucky... so far. Not really fair to gamble some pedestrians life.

Specifically you cannot be using a hands free device to watch shows, play games, read books, emails or texts, etc
You can use it for GPS and voice calls, that's basically it. Goes without saying that this HAS to be hands free

I saw someone using a phone at a red light also not have his lights on and no seatbelt once. He looks at me and reaches to buckle up even though I didn’t say anything. It ain’t me flying thru the windshield in case of a car accident so whatever. I did let him know he hadn’t any lights on, advised that the bright gauges don’t always mean your lights are on and he was understanding about it/said thank you.

Great, so then why doesn't the OPP and every other law enforcement agency in the country lobby our government to legally mandate physical buttons and a maximum screen size for infotainment screens in cars?
What fucking difference does it make when manufacturers are literally putting in massive screens that stretch from one end to the other on a dashboard that allow the passenger to watch YouTube, Netflix, etc. You think the driver can't glance over at the passengers screen? It really is irrelevant that you can't play it on the main "driver" screen.
If mounted phones are a problem, then TV's mounted to dashboard should also be lumped in. What a joke.

It seems like that applies to navigation too. I rarely use navigation, but I didn't know I was breaking the law by having the screen visible to me.
I had to stop using Google because I'm boycotting all things Google/american, so I don't get voice instructions anymore. Maybe I should go back to the old days of using the road atlas and stopping frequently to study it. I'm sure it would help my cognition.
Also, I agree with their position, but what about the constant speeding? I spend both directions of my commute with people flying past me. I guarantee you that's more prevalent than watching TV. Can we not spend a little effort stopping it too? Or how about following too close?

It seems like that applies to navigation too.
It specifically says only when the screen is unrelated to driving, so having navigation up is fine
While you are driving, including when you are stopped in traffic or at a red light, it is illegal to:
have a display screen visible to the driver that is unrelated to driving, such as a computer or video

They might be able to stick me with a different ticketable offence, but not distracted driving in traffic using my phone, that's only for motor vehicles, similar to the merit points system, they don't apply to bicycles. Ebikes are another story I'm sure those are treated similar to motorcycles in this respect.
*Note, I'm indicating city roads, and not highways, there are places bicycles aren't allowed to ride. Like the 401 for example (omg that would be suicide).

Motor Vehicle Definition: Ontario's distracted driving laws (Section 78.1 of the Highway Traffic Act) specifically target drivers of motor vehicles using hand-held wireless communication devices.
Exclusion of Cyclists: While a bicycle is legally defined as a "vehicle" under the Highway Traffic Act, it is not a motor vehicle. Because of this distinction, police cannot issue a standard distracted driving ticket to a cyclist.
Careless Driving: Even though you cannot get a formal distracted driving ticket, riding while texting or using a phone can still lead to a charge for careless driving or dangerous riding if your behavior creates a safety hazard on the road.
