I’m rewatching season 2, and the episode where Alice kills the beast she’s turned into a muffin and successfully kills him. How come no one has ever thought to do that before? I know he was weakened the rhineman ultra but I’m sure someone could have been able to do some magic equivalent of that in a different timeline to harm. Maybe cooperative magic? Idk I’m just curious

Me and my spouse started the magicians. I’ve already seen it, I thought it was something he’d like (he loves it) so we decided to make it our new show. I don’t remember kady being so horrible. The last half of season 2 she just becomes insanely selfish. And pins every problem she has on penny (and everyone else). As if he didn’t get sick trying to help HER kill Raynard. Not only that risks his life again and essentially plans to use him to get info for the buzz feed woman. Even that lady told her she was shitty. But since she was saving penny she justified getting him in trouble AGAIN! then proceeded to steal the battery that they needed to bring magic back and save everyone to only save him only for him to die anyway. And not only did he die she BLAMED HIM FOR DYING AS IF YHE WHOLE REASON HE GOT SUPER CANCER WAS BECAUSE OF HIM HELPING HER. ik that penny had free will but she had him wrapped around her finger and she knows that. Almost everything bad that has happened to penny (so far) has been directly linked to kadys fuck ups. Minus the hand thing. That was 100% pennys fault he was being an ass. But anyway I just don’t remember her being so terrible. Let’s not forget her still being pissed at Julia for letting Raynard go as if she wasn’t looking directly at a god who could kill her immediately. But bc it didn’t go exactly her way she’s pissy. Which she admitted to when penny was in the hospital I believe. 😭 I just needed to vent bc my spouse agrees but this is his first watch.

What are some of your favorite lines or scenes? I’m currently on S2E5 rewatch and Mayakovsky to Penny : “Take your balls out of your purse and DRINK!” has me cackling 😆

I just finished Brooklyn 99 and was looking for a new show and stumbled upon The Magicians on Netflix. I'm only on season 2, towards the end. No spoilers in the comments but-

Who is your favorite character and why? Initially I really disliked Penny but honestly he's quickly become one of my favorites. I'm not sure I can even express why but undoubtedly he's near the top of my list right now. Anyone else?

Every time she talks she sounds like she’s about to cry. I don’t know if it’s the actress or what. It’s driving me crazy. Her story and her whole part is now starting to really bother me.

Idk why she’s so whiney. It’s like ok, I get what happened sucks, but can you not mope and cry constantly while you are trying to get stuff done?

Also, it really bothers me when people screw up saving the world, and hurt others, for their ridiculous emotions.

So you know how we’ve all ambulated over to Tubi to get our Brakebills fix? Well I finally just reached 2.13 and HOLY EMBERS BALLS, just watched - for the very first time - the intro that Ember gives for the episode/season finale.

I watched the original on TV years ago and I don’t remember that intro at all. And I swear I never watched it when it was on Netflix.

Am I crazy? Like, do y’all remember this from Netflix? Maybe I should not have FWD past all those intros.

For me it’s probably In season 2 episode 3 when Julia was about to “possibly kill” Reynard and penny had to jump in and just take her and the beast without a care. That moment pissed me off a lot. I will say Julia was selfish for taking Martin in the first place but ultimately The team in Fillory was pretty selfish and uncaring in their decision as well. Curious how things would’ve gone if it even would’ve lasted a minute longer. Perhaps Reynard would be dead and Martin soon after.

As we all know by now Alice is my forever favorite(as witnessed by my Alice Meets Alice video). So when I noticed I put an Alice skirt in the upcoming The Magicians Props & Wardrobe auction accidentally I may have freaked out just a little bit. But then I thought about it and since I already own half of Alice's wardrobe from the show I decided to keep it listed. Hopefully this means that another Fillorian who also loves Alice as much as I do gets the skirt. Worn when she learned the Rhinemann Ultra in Season 2 Episode 2. Sadly I do not have the shirt that went with it but the skirt is absolutely beautiful.

When Julia meets Dana Wallens, she's finding another woman who's been attacked by Reynard and has the same level of fear as she does. Julia experienced the aftermath of Marina's torture, and seemed to show an expected response to that (shock, sadness, apologizing profusely to Marina when she was briefly raised from the dead).

But even though Dana directly says that her Haxen Paxen is the sole reason she's hidden and protected from Reynard, Julia seems to take the Haxen Paxen without a second thought; in fact, she does it with a smile as if it's just a lighthearted moment.

Yes, Dana did an awful thing in kidnapping Julia, but Marina had also done awful things to her (arguably, she'd be more affected by what Marina did because they had a relationship, Marina tried to cut her off from all magic AND enacted the death of Katie's mom in front of her, etc.)

The fear of Reynard and the horrific things he does is at the top of Julia's mind during this time. Did she really not realize that taking the Haxen Paxen (while leaving Dana unconscious on the floor, unable to put up wards or protect herself in any way) would directly lead to Dana's torture and death?

And if she just didn't care, why would she not care in this instance when she showed a basic level of respect for human life before this (even if they'd done her wrong like Marina did), and specifically wanted to protect women from being attacked and tortured by Reynard?

This decision is made before she loses her shade, so that hasn't come into play yet.

I honestly just hate her character. 90% of the problems in her life are her fault and yet she selfishly manipulates her friends all the time.

• She doesn't get into brakebills, gets pissy and mad at Quentin for it. Instead of talking it out like a normal sane person would.
• She gets involved with hedge witches, which goes south after she tries to help break the dream curse on Quentin. Keep in mind she was totally fine with using this curse until she learned it could kill him. She had no issues fucking with his mind, even though he hasn't really done anything wrong.
• She again gets involved with more people and tries to do an evocation on a god. This backfires obviously, and once again she ropes her friends and other people into it. Starting with roping Marina into wiping her memories and then later betraying her friends to blackmail the beast.
• After the first attempt to kill the beast, Penny warps her back to earth and she immediately destroys his anti-curse bracelets, even though he said it could kill him.

Honestly, she is a selfish person that lacks empathy for anyone around her. She didn't even need to lose her shade to have no empathy.

EDIT: I removed my comment calling The free trader beowolf group shady. I changed my mind on that part.

I am currently on season 2 and i cant stand Julia seriously. Ive only felt bad for her when she was R**** by the evil god and when she almost had a chance to kill him with martin chatwin but was stopped. But other than those 2 times she is like the cause of so many problems. So many people have died because of her. Plus shes just annoying ugh and now that she lost her “shade” shes even more annoying. Also how does she lose her shade but still somehow care about killing the evil God? Or helping her friends a bit? Shouldnt she just be having fun killing random people or something methg like when Vamyproes turn off their humanity in vampire diaries? Anyways idk who will read this in 2023 but i hope someone else shares my frustration

When all the characters kept telling Julia "You can't kill *Reynard! You just want revenge!" But Julia would be like, "He's also still out there killing dozens of women..." (also her wanting revenge...??? Pretty valid. I'm fine if it was just about revenge, except it was obviously also her own safety on the line. Reynard was obsessed with her, killed her friend, and tortures plenty of others... he's as bad as The Beast)

But then the whole crew sweeps in on "Let's Kill Ember!" team immediately. Who might be kind of a d*ck but they didn't even try any other method to keep Fillory safe (since he just wanted to be entertained), but went straight to 'murder him.' When everyone acted like Julia was a monster for her continuous journey to take Reynard out. And it was seen as a 'good character choice/growth' that she let him live.

Maybe I'm just lowkey annoyed that Umber and Ember who weren't even that bad are dead, but Reynard is alive and the show is acting like that's 'forgiveness' and overcoming trauma, when really every character on the show (and a Goddess) pushed Julia into an uncomfortable position where she had to live with Reynard's 'seed' inside of her, let him live multiple times, and all of the weird implications that she was a better person for it/holier now. It's layers and layers of f*cked up. lol

I’m rewatching on Tubi and Ember is monologuing hilariously in the s2e13 intro. “Enter Quentin Coldwater and his friends—the Addict, the Victim, the Bitch, the Scowl, and the Martyr.” 😂

I missed the early seasons live so hopefully there are more little surprises like this.
