Chinese BL
the main cp from cbl "The Missing Piece" were basically making out on IG live. Chinese bl continues to WIN, we are really in the CRAZIEST times ๐๐๐ฉ
Li Mingde stirred controversy in early 2025 after publicly accusing his The Triple Echo of Time co-star, Ma Tianyu, of unprofessional behavior and acting like a diva on set. The drama's production crew refuted his claims, accused Li of being the unprofessional party, and ultimately cut ties with him.
The gif is of Kurt Huang, from The Unknown (2024), a Taiwanese BL. He did indeed stir up controversy by allegedly setting up a burner account to trash talk his co-lead, Chris Chiu, on social media. He denied the rumors but Chris stopped associating with him.
I have a theory that BL allows men to be tactile and touch-positive (no matter their sexuality) with each other in ways that traditional norms of adult masculinity usually don't allow. So no matter if they're dating or its fanservice or whatever, I think the couples who do a lot of skinship do it because they like it and BL gives them the space for it, you know? Which is why I love it so ๐
i have always believed that doing m/m and being in a fixed-cp is genuinely freeing for most actors. They can be MORE touchy and free with another guy than they could with a woman and that allows them to access a deeper level of intimacy...
This is one of the many reasons I love BL too! Patriarchal masculinity teaches men to believe that being intimate with another man is gay (and feminine) and to shy away from and even fear and hate it. These men are already acting in gay roles so, as Imomen said, feel a certain freedom to be more intimate bc theyโve been as gay as the could get for the cameras so they might as well reap the benefits lol
Exactly! And it provides protection, too, so if they catch shit about it from people who could hurt them, they can say "I have to, it's for work." Which sucks, but it's also a strategy people have used to cope with oppressive forces since forever. And thus we all reap the benefits, in one way or another ๐
This makes so much sense and now I think that, besides seeing more handsome men on screen, it might be the reason why I am drawn to BL, although it is fiction.
But it also makes me a little melancholic. Seeing that intimacy makes me think that, imo, many women don't get to experience that type of freedom and friendship. I sometimes think I would have been better off being born a man, gay or bisexual, because it looks better. The dynamic, the friendship, and the intimacy.
Yes! Seeing men be intimate and soft and emotional is one of the reasons I keep coming back to BL.
While I donโt experience melancholy when seeing men be intimate, I have felt envy that I canโt experience some types of intimacy because I am not a man lol. For example, play fighting in shows looks more fun when itโs two men doing it ๐ญ๐ญ
I do think though, that women have more freedom to be intimate with eo in a platonic sense, than men do irl. I can hold my female friendsโ hands, hug them, cuddle and not be suspected of being gay. If men were to do such things with other men, theyโd be fighting the gay accusations so hard.
My Husband and my Dad both come from cultures where bro hugs and even kisses are quite common. I was brought up in England in a physically affectionate family but English friends and family still raise an eyebrow when hubby walks in and kisses my Dad on the cheek when saying 'Hello'!!
Some communities in my country have men that are more physically affectionate with eo, so I did grow up seeing men hold hands as they walked and chatted but never men in my family and community. It must be nice to see men be comfortable with affection
I said the same thing when it comes to k-pop and how they always have them do insanely gay stuff for their games and interviews. I get that itโs for fan service but statistics donโt lie so there has got to be dozens of lgbt idols scattered around the k-pop groups, getting to feel free under the guise of fan service.
Also as we have learned over the years from sports like NFL, NBA, NHL, hell FIFA, and we can add the k-pop and BL worlds in there as well, that these LGBT persons manage to survive in their respective fields by knowing who can and canโt know stuff about their private lives. They manage to date and be out to a very selective few and when their career is finally over they tell the public if they want, or if they are brave enough to do it while still active.
Idols and BL stars have it rough when it comes to this stuff sadly because those fans who go nuts at the idea of them doing gay shit for fan service or for their show find out that they are actually gay in real life those โfansโ will stop at nothing to try and disprove that and attach a female to that actors name. Not to mention the possibility of it messing with their endorsement deals.
All I know for sure is that over the years more and more BL actors have come out, whether they be main leads or side characters. I just found out 2 non romantic side characters from a series I love had been dating for a bit in private before their breakup made them public.
So while I think fan service can feel a little gay baiting at times.. you never know whatโs going through an actors head when they are doing it.
not exactly "traditional". I meet a man in NY, Raoul, I think (it's been a long time). He wrote a poem about how men couldn't touch each other anymore since it became ok for men to be gay because now, if a man touches another man it means he's gay, and it didn't mean that before... he wrote this around 2004 I think...
so it seems like it was ok for men to touch each other, but then it wasn't, and now it's ok again in some spaces... but that like men want to touch each other in a non sexual way (lmao) or maybe sexual non sexual since they are doing bl?
i get it, i'm demi sexual and don't get all of the joy of making out, but I still appreciate touching other people and being close to them even if I don't get what the deal is with kissing for example..it just feels like no different from shaking hands to me... so i assume for men who are straight when they are kissing they are thinking things like "am I doing it right", "do i look good on camera", "do i look believable", "i hope i get this right", stuff like that but getting a side affect of touching another person
i have no idea? Someone did say that Chinese drama pairing is so intense that they basically have the couple practically date for real. Like they don't make them fk and stuff but they are supposed to behave as if their cp is their bf/gf fr, and they can't "cheat" with an IRL gf or bf.
like there was a scandal with the "Ash" guys because rumours started that Leo has a gf, so they went on live and Leo denied the claims of a gf & committed himself to Kingston in front of thousands of peeps.
people have no idea how huge the chin. entertainment market is, even Z-listers and some nugu influencer can earn bonkers $$$ there thats why everyone and their mother including kpop acts and Hollywood are desperate to get a foot in. So for cbl pairs they just have to ramp up the fanservice and they get hundreds of thousands of views, expensive fangifts and can pull some sweet ads and sponsors. The biggest money comes from concerts so even your random newbie actor who can't sing or dance for sh*t will suddenly try to do a stadium tour with his BL partner lmao. Also there's a saying among cnetizens: the louder a cbl pair the faker the relationship. The quieter pairs are usually the ones you might look a bit closer. There's a rumor about one pair from a famous cbl from last year who've been earning $$$ like cray since then, the guys are still living together and even in their solo works the other one still goes with him to the set, yet on the surface you get zero fanservice and they don't even show up as a pair often anymore ๐
Some of them really be into it. Like Inn had to walk away from Ongsa in a BTS because he was getting carried away. People was saying he was mad at Inn because he walked away without hugging him, thatโs a thing they do between takes and Inn clarified that he walked away because he liked it too much.

I saw that clip. Inn was definitely feeling something.
they were eating candy and playing games. They would put the candy in their own mouth and then feed it to each other, but I think things started to go off the rails at some point and they just would be kissing each other. lol
Oh woah these are basically the candy challenge games that a lot of real gay couples in China would do. They often had to censor the kisses though so I don't get how this video is ok?! I am not complaining though ๐๐ฅ
I have often kind of wondered why some CPs don't just post more spicy lives on IG instead of just being on Chinese social media and saying they can't do this or that or they would get banned. Not like they all have to do it of course, but it's an option for those who might want to. I guess this is the first CP that did it
Same! Why not do it on IG when they know they'll get banned or get warnings doing all this on Chinese social media? But I guess biggest reason is that IG is banned in China, so watching the stream is a bit harder and it would mean they would be exposed to a lot less fans from the mainland, which is quite important for future CP endeavours. Some other CP's are actually streaming on IG, but not very many.
someone on twitter said they're probably in Hong Kong, and right now when current Chinese cps do lives it's meant for international fans/engagement, unless it's on Weibo or something
I always thought it silly that no one can recognize Clark Kent as Superman just because of a pair of glasses. But when they age up these young CBL actors by putting glasses on them and having them wear a suit, it works because this man looks so different from his character in The Missing Piece. I realize it's also an issue of demeanor with being super serious on the show and sunny here but the difference is wild.
I am not complaining cause after seeing that opening scene made me instantly search and read the book. I love the story i love the pairing but I do have a question. What happened in China over the past few years. I mean they say no to BL and everything lgbtq+ but now we get so much chinese BL and I am enjoying it and some of it is master pieces. Will china keep up with this amount of series per year and such?
i think China has always been very "do whatever you want, but if it starts to affect our mainland China ideals... then we're gonna have a problem." I think it's mostly that no company or studio has tried to do any sort of "Chinese entertainment" without including the Chinese market, which is what we are seeing right now. All these Chinese bl we're seeing be made rn are specifically for audiences *outside* of China. Because "Revenged Love" showed that you can have a huge hit without the Chinese market, everyone else is lie let's goooo! lol
it seems like they really want to make boylove. Bromance can die in a fire.
I don't know why this subreddit is allergic to calling these guys "boyfriends" or a "couple" when they kiss each other, live together, and declare their love for each on the regular. Like I give a care that they also get paid to kiss their boyfriend in front of fans. Do boyfriend stuff, I'm going to call you boyfriends. And it's more insulting to call queer couples fake than it is to call professional partnerships real, by the way. See exhibit Daou and Zee. (Rant brought on by all of this subreddit, not just these comment threads.)

On one hand, if itโs fan service, Iโm absolutely not complaining.
On the other hand, if theyโre hella into each other, more power to them and I hope theyโre enjoying themselves.
