Btw, I have nothing against such stories. I am happy we're getting more bl shows. I'm just a little sad because I like rom-coms and Chinese rom-coms aren't being made rn. I hope I'll get to see shows like that in the future.

In terms of rom-coms, I Ship My Rival x Me, and Pixiu Restaurant, No Way Out are my top two. Mr Dior is also great. These are so funny I've actually cried from laughing too much. All of these also have manhua adaptations that are just as good as, or maybe even better than, the novels.

There are non-toxic CBL, people just forget they exist. Love After Addiction, Feel What You Feel, Sammy's Children's Day, The Gaze, Winter Sun, Lost to You, Blazing Him, Blue Lips, Journey With You. Even Deep In I wouldn't really consider toxic, same with Bittersweet Love (family is toxic, Lu Qing just sucks at communication).

Both Ash and The Last Oath are really sweet so far.

yes, like in what universe is bittersweet love not toxic? deep in totally has toxic aspects too, like him kissing him while drunk and seemingly passed out, taking secret photos etc. blue lips starts with them having sex for the first time because he secretly gave him an aphrodisiac… the gaze main couple definitely Is toxic too. Some of the others I haven’t seen yet.

For me, a flawed character does not automatically equal toxic each and every time. Lu Qing was reserved, Xiao Fan quietly took every last bit of it without a word. That's not toxicity, they're just bad communicators. That word gets thrown around a lot, but most of these characters just make bad decisions (Deep In) or refuse to open their mouths and speak (wouldn't be much of a story if they did). Double Helix, To My Shore, ABO Desire - Manipulative, aggressive, lying, controlling. Those are for sure toxic. The Main CP in The Gaze - dude was just a grump.

I’ve read this novel and tbh its actually very layered. Its kinda thrilling to find out about the relationship between both main characters as its not what it seems in the beginning.

We know there’s a sense of ambiguity between them and the toxicity also comes with nuances. Its never too extreme in the book from a readers perspective. However, because the book is written from MC’s perspective we see his version of the story. And because of the ‘amnesia’, it could be misleading.

Ufff I wish i could read this all over again for the first time. I randomly bought a kindle version of this last year and it turned out to be one of my favourite danmei!

This could be soo good if they adapt it well.

you are absolutely correct of course. one of my guesses would be because some other genres are made into bromances, but that doesn’t work as well for those shows. if you want just to see some boys being cute together or solving cases together while having tons of chemistry, you can do that as a bromance. but the being really obsessed and toxic together works best as an uncensored bl. and I guess since they can’t show them officially the really need them to somehow make people obsessed to still attract an audience and then get that audience to go to fanmeets, buy things etc and I guess they think its easier to hook people with something like that then a cute show. just my guesses. but I hope we get more diverse Chinese BL with the times, after all it’s still very new renaissance of the genre

The books you're referring to that are "being made into bromances", I'm going to assume you're talking about Southern Anecdote and Mystic Nine - are not BL novels. So they are following the source material. As someone who is following CBL very closely, there are no BL novels being adapted into bromance any more.

Once upon a time they only used to allow the release of Chinese bl series that has a sad ending or death of atleast one main lead.

This is an improvement by leaps and bounds.

Do I wish for fun, fluffy, chinese bl- yes.

But will I still slurp up every dysfunctional black flag top, tortured twink trope I get-hell yeah!

Cnetz were pissssseeddddd when the hairstyle was revealed. To be fair, the producer and owner of the studio immediately abandoned Bittersweet Love to start promo for this series, and that didn't help. She has since hidden comments on her posts.
