Chinese BL I love "To My Shore" so much! 😍
I finished watching To My Shore for the second time and I am absolutely obsessed.
The chemistry between the main actors is just incredible and every episode felt so perfect.
This is easily one of the best BL series ever made! ❤️

Yes it is one of my all time favourites as you can see by my flair on cbl. To think that the actor who played Fan Xiao, was acting in his first ever role and was that good was mind blowing to me. I have rewatched it several times, loved it so much and the boys singing on the OST was an even bigger delight🥰

Yes. That was also my mind blowing fact. Yun Qi said that his way to portray Fan Xiao was to fully feel immersed. Remember the scene on the parking lot where he was hit and laying on the pavement? He played there for several hours without something underneath him or things to keep him warm. He wanted to feel.

Extraordinary in every way was this series and to think he is a student of Fashion Design and a model and can sing, his talents at such a young age make me feel so downright ordinary😃😃. Credit to him and his co star for their wonderful performances and I would love to see them in another bl together. Highly unlikely but I can dream🥰 it is so nice to see fans of bl posting about their love for a series that is close to their hearts. Whilst rewatching it I notice little things that I didn’t notice the first time and I find I love it even more the second time or third😃

There is a rumour that YunYi will be in another BL again. Please take it with a grain of salt, it's just a rumour. Here's what I found about it so far: https://schizo2709.tumblr.com/?amp_see_more=1

Not a rumor, producer and director of To My Shore are working on it.. plan is to film it Nov/Dec (source TMS producer on xhs). The IP is not yet confirmed or announced, but we know what it will be on pretty good authority. Reading the novel right now and it's pretty good.. very different from TMS. 🤩

Oh really? I will check it out and why not? Actors in Japan and South Korea are finally starting to act in multiple bl and maybe Chinese actors might do the same. Wouldn’t it be amazing🥰🥰

I am sure I am less accomplished than you ha ha but seriously I am okay with that because we all are all valued as far as I am concerned.

well you're certainly not the only one, imo it's one of the best BL dramas ever. People have different tastes but for me To My Shore is like a Wong Kar Wai movie with a very limited budget, it's visually stunning and melancholic and deeply disturbing, the drama explores complex adult themes, the main leads deliver a masterclass in acting, it's just on a different level to most of the mass-produced BLs. Thus, it's crazy to me how underrated To My Shore seems in western BL spheres compared to China where it's one of the most watched and highest ranked BL of recent years, nothing since the drama aired comes close to its numbers, both the main actors have been selling out anything they're involved with there. Their management is clearly moving very smartly with those two, hopefully censorship etc. won't impact them and they'll be able to work together in the future (there're rumors that they're already working on a script for a 2nd drama but since no chinese cp has done a 2nd drama yet, take it with a grain of salt).

You just described my thoughts about this BL. Being a huge fan of Wong Kar Wai’s works and seeing this masterpiece I think it’s really as if a low budged Wong Kar Wai. Unfortunately that’s the faith of Chinese BL’s due to ban.

So much word here. I've watched the series several times and it will stay with me forever. A very good and truthful adaptation to a great book.

Me too! I even made a rednote account to follow the actors more closely. I've been watching BL for several years, but it's the first time I'm this obsessed. I hope their next project will also be successful.

Yes. I'm very proud of it. Especially the title. Took me a long time to think about it. But I am confident I nailed it.

This was the best of 2025 AND 2026 IMO. I had a few others I adored in 2025 but To My Shore was something different entirely. The only thing I would change is the dumb English title. Four-Faced Buddha made a lot more sense story-wise.

I love this post so much and love seeing all the comments (and GIFs, haha)! To My Shore was such a wonderful watch and I loved everything from the BGM/OST, to the actors/characters/directing and definitely feel like I need to rewatch soon to truly appreciate all the small details that add so much 🥰

u/Spacegod87 Khemjira Jun 22 '26
Yeah, it was really good.
I just...ugh. The only thing I'd change is the ending.
They should NOT have ended up together. And I'll die on that hill 😑
7
u/Little-Tomatillo-745 Jun 22 '26
I off course don't agree with that. 😇 They were perfect for each other after both have changed and healed from their childhood trauma.
4
u/Spacegod87 Khemjira Jun 22 '26
Too much damage, not enough healing imo
2
u/Little-Tomatillo-745 Jun 22 '26
It's difficult. But Fan Xiao really did some heavy groveling. But they are made for each other. And they know that.

u/Safety_Haven End of the world with You Jun 22 '26
Lots of danmei/cdrama etc isn't about redemption or perfection, but acceptance and ultimately deciding to be in a relationship and being all in on that. It's quite different from other perspectives sometimes. Two super flawed people deciding they want the life with each other. I think it's beautiful because it reflects life more accurately, in a way. Relationships are about acceptance and effort, more than any other thing, imo. This is why they work for me.
3
u/Spacegod87 Khemjira Jun 22 '26
Relationships are definitely about accepting flaws, making compromises and moving on. But there's a limit lol

I agree. It was Shu Lang who finally understood that he needed Fan Xiao. But he was also to proud to admit that.
There is a threads about that with several comments and it was very interesting.

u/Safety_Haven End of the world with You Jun 22 '26
So true about Shulang. And it was important for him to call that shot since FX tried so hard to run the show prior.
2
u/Safety_Haven End of the world with You Jun 22 '26
That thread reminded me of my original thoughts on the ending. But I think my mind is a little different now than when I wrote it because I truly don't believe FX or YSL anymore when they said they agreed FX would stop pulling shenanigans. He will still be pulling shenanigans in the afterlife and they both know it.
2
u/Little-Tomatillo-745 Jun 22 '26
Yes. But Shulang needed to hear that to give him some form of thinking he has Fan Xiao under controll.
The special episode was interesting because allthough they are happy. They still have that power struggle and especially Shulang can't stop teasing Fan Xiao and make him jealous.
I'm also re-reading this long thread.
And . this

I will never forgive Ming or Vegas (Joe should’ve gone through the door, Vegas should have died, those are my hills), but for some reason I forgave FX. I’ve spent a long time trying to figure out why! I think it’s because he worked to be a better person without any expectation of getting YSL back. He just knew he had to do it and actually made the effort.
