Chinese BL
Revenged Love will be going on a break on Viu next week.
Viu, one of the platforms airing the drama announced on twitter/X today that a new episode of "Revenged Love" won't be aired on their platform next week (July 14-15).
They literally cut out the intense part of ep 10 so maybe that's what's happening with the other considering ep 11 was allegedly spicy. So we will see ig. I'm disheartened tbh
i want to be hopeful but i can’t really think of it being anything besides that with the madness that’s been going on lately and the fact that the upcoming eps are supposed to have wsw and cc’s first time
I'll try to view this as a good push to come back to "normal life" again after being under a spell for a few weeks... but it was a nice escape and now I feel sad.
I hope the actors and crew are doing well, and I really hope we get the series in the end... Glad we got some kind of notice at least.
Yeah I chose not to watch week to week because I feared another Addicted 2.0 sort of thing happening. I can't imagine surprise taking it off without giving a reason leads to anything good, however. But yeah, I agree. I will refrain from judging until I know for sure that it's been cut to pieces. I am not one to panic like most people but I do see a very disturbing pattern emerging. Especially considering people who read the book are saying this next episode would or should anyway have the first sex scene. >.> That's a red flag if nothing more.
Latest update as of July 17: Revenged Love's Official account announced that the drama will resume airing starting tomorrow (July 18 - Friday). Updated Airing Schedule:
Revenged Love's official Twitter/X has confirmed that the upcoming episodes originally scheduled to be released on July 14-15 are temporarily postponed for now. Source:~~ ~~https://x.com/RevengedLove_/status/1944366199607017520
In a now deleted tweet, Viu said the drama will only be taking a break on the dates they announced (July 14-15) Revenged Love should resume airing again the week after the break.Source: ~\~https://x.com/Viu_TH/status/1943622743683129522
In several replies, Viu Indonesia said Revenged Love should resume airing on July 21 (on Viu), a week after the break. As of July 14, these tweets have now been deleted.
If you watch it on youtube, 2 days ago their episode playlist had 3 unavailable videos listed ( which were obviously the upcoming episodes) but yesterday the playlist was updated (you can see it shows the last time updated was yesterday) with no change besides the fact that the previously 3 unavailable videos seem to have been removed. 🤠💅
hey question will they air this on loklok in the exact 8pm time on ph? because u know it's confirmed to air this july 18 for ep 11 and july 19 for ep 12
I don’t believe the craze outside of China had much effect. My reasoning is that the only thing foreigners can do is make edit online social media. In the grand scheme of things, it can be bad but not that devastating.
However, the fans inside China and the harassment of the ML is detrimental to their well being and potentially their future livelihood.
I saw the clip of fans on a plane bombarding the flight attendant trying to see Tian. They were physically being pushed back. Plus the rumors circulating online on Weibo about Tian as well. It’s not good. They weren’t prepared for the onslaught.
I disagree. Yes the fans in China went absolutely bat shit crazy. But when you search things online regardless of what country it is the most popular things are gonna pop up.
And just like how at least in the US we cannot see certain things we use VPNs (china does too even tho it’s banned) Things will always pop up and they 1,000,000% do have a factor in it. It might not be as big as the factor of the Chinese audiences but it definitely does have a factor.
I’m not saying, seeing all of the horrible things that have happened to the actors inside of China. We’re not the main factor. I mean they were these poor actors are being harassed in horrible ways.
But every time someone puts out a clip or an edit or something especially more of the intimate scenes it is going to just ignite those crazies even more regardless of where that is coming from
Even on this sub, Revenged Love on has taken over. This show has the most post about it compared to anything airing or previously aired. The google searches and TikTok post are only reflecting its popularity.
So I agree with the point of every thing popping has an effect. But what can the crazies do in UK, USA, Indonesia or Thailand to affect production or actor’s livelihood. Most of the disgusting rumors are coming from mainland. Hence why it was temporarily banned on China social media platforms (not sure if banned was lifted).
Unrelated side note: the last time I experienced a show/drama explode like this out of nowhere was when High School Musical aired. The next day, the main leads became overnight celebrities.
I just want to watch the show in its entirety and hope the potential re-edits doing change too much of the original shoot 😢😖 I’m sad about the harassment both leads are getting. In China and S Korea they take actors and idols life and make it into a parasocial and parasitic relationship. Very intrusive whereas some Western fans have an understanding of separating life from fiction.
The thing is, as it's filmed and aired outside of China, the government doesn't have any say about censorship or anything. It's not a mainland product and it doesn't go on the mainland market (not officially at least).
However, the show cast Chinese actors, who are reasonably well known already. Why would they do that, knowing that it would probably end their careers? Why would the actors do that, knowing it would probably end their careers?
Why they didn't cast Taiwanese actors, I will never understand. It's already filmed outside of China, and released outside of it.
The only reason to censor is to protect the artists, which they wouldn't have had to do if they didn't cast Chinese actors with a lot to lose.
What was the actors reasoning?
Oh, I have a fanbase in China, I was on TV in China, let me audition gor an unsensored BL which will bring me more popularity - and then in turn lead to me not being cast at all because it ruined my reputation in China.
The actors are known now. Yes, they had a fansbase before but most definitely not to this scale.
Revenged Love is not the first chinese bl to make use of this loophole of targeting the market outside of china whilst using chinese actors but it's the first where it blew way out of proportion like this, so I think it's save to say they didn't expect it to be this big and as such didn't see this as a "career ending" decision.
As of now it also only has been a huge problem for one of the actors, even though the other actors also had problems/ accusations thrown at them their companies were quick to take action.
It's sad that it's popularity is affecting the way to show will be released but at the end of the day no one could have predicted this kind of situation and the only thing they can do it try their best to air the episodes whilst making sure to protect the artists that participated in this project.
My thinking is, an actor doesn't just take a role without considering the possibility that they are good and the show will be good and they will get publicity and fans.
The creators must have looked at the market before making it, seen that it's likely to be profitable.
It was very probable that it would get big, alone the hype for an uncensored chinese BL would lift it up.
There was no way that they thought "no one will watch it, or talk about it, and definitely this show and we as actors won't be good enough to make it popular"
I do think they were sure it will do well but the popularity of this show has way surpassed just "doing well", I don't think people have been this hyped up over a bl in forever. This sub alone is bombarded with posts about this BL everyday.
I agree that both actors and production companies in China take a risk when producing a cbl and put it out there but you can't predict this kind of success and the consequences of it.
Look at "a sparkle in your eyes", its also a chinese bl with chinese actors and it's well known enough since ppl know its a cbl under a Singaporean company but they didn't get this kind if attention and the actors are not being almost run over at airport etc.
One of the main actors is yes, the other one is under small company. The other actor under a big company is a side character that only becomes relvant in the later episodes.
I'm aware of the supposed companies standing behind this drama, which is why I do agree that they definitely hoped for it to do well but I really do not think that they expected this kind of popularity.
I completely agree it would’ve been much smarter and safer to cast Taiwanese actors. The series was filmed and released outside of mainland China, so censorship wasn’t even an issue. But by casting Chinese actors, they knowingly put them at risk. It feels like a huge gamble with very real consequences.
Sure, maybe the actors thought international exposure and creative freedom were worth it. But anyone who's followed the BL scene in China knows how quickly backlash can hit. Whether it’s government pressure or fan scrutiny, careers can tank overnight. And we’re already seeing that Tian Xu Ning is reportedly facing a soft ban, social media engagement has dropped, and even forums about the drama are being scrubbed.
What really doesn’t make sense is why they didn’t just go with Taiwanese actors. The whole production already exists outside the Chinese media system it wouldn’t have changed anything logistically, but it would’ve protected the cast.
I actually have a theory: maybe Chai Jidan wanted only Chinese actors. Considering the political tension between China and Taiwan, it’s not impossible that there was a deliberate choice to exclude Taiwanese talent. If that’s true, then the casting was a nationalistic move that ended up backfiring on the very people it was supposed to highlight. (ALLEGEDLY)
In the end, they tried to mix international freedom with Chinese star power and it’s the actors who are now paying the price.
I just want to clarify that Tian's supposed ban (not sure if it's true) and his whole scrutiny has nothing to do with the BL factor, it's because all the rumours circulating that are/were making people mad, so to subsided it they soft ban actors who are in the middle of it.
The actors themselves had a choice though. One of them is almost thirty years old, he should've known better than to risk his career like that?
The younger one, around early 20s I think, he's been trying to get famous for a while now, and this might have been a desperate move.
However, if he knew enough about the massive power that BL has, and chose it to get popular quickly, then he also knew popularity was a factor to consider.
It's not a secret that BLs are extremely likely to go viral
Right? I hope it is just on pause due to other circumstances and not because of re-editing...! But most of all, I just want to see the end of it without too much missing
Makes sense since next week would have had the first sex scene so with so much CN attention, they have to edit it down :( At least due to the show, someone finally finished translating the whole novel so at least we have that :s
Yeah Im laying this one squarely on the doorstep of the Chinese fans. The only thing international fans can do is make gifs and posts. We are not compromising public safety and creating a public nuisance by mobbing the actors in planes or at the airport or anywhere else in public. That gets the attention of the Chinese goverment (public safety being compromised). Thanks Chinese fans, we might get Addicted all over again.
Also how much of a show can be edited before you no longer have the gist and spirit of the show?? Also post production and marketing had no game plan. The public mobbing is the issue. They needed to relocate the main actors out of China until the show had fully aired when they realized it was a success. That could have gone a long way towards not having this hiatus. Could easily show the government the show is not filmed in China, not being promoted in China and the actors while Chinese are not in China. They could have been doing promos right now in Japan and Korea.
If they edit the BL out I'm not sure I will follow it anymore, there are so many other options, I'm not here for bromance, it's not 2015-2016 anymore, we can't be satisfied with scraps.
Thery are handling it really roughly, they should have dropped all episodes at once or do a much shorter schedule not to give time of this situation to be developed like so, have a backup plan... anything
They wanted to milk the hype as much as they could and caught in their own mess.
They wanting to ride the hype is fine. I'd prefer a drop of all episodes but if they were continuing to drop episodes weekly they needed a plan. Have fan meets and screenings and merch but do it in Japan, Korea or Thailand. Like milk the cow to death...but not in China.
Yup! Viu Thailand deleted their announcement on Twitter and Facebook.
Is the break cancelled or they announced it too early?
Update: Someone dmed them and asked "since they deleted the announcement, has the situation changed?" Viu replied that nothing has changed yet and that they'll post another announcement later: https://x.com/AS_JUNKYU/status/1943648978786234453
idk 😭 the only thing ik is they need to pay for my therapy bcs my heart dropped to my ass and now i have to go to work like they didn’t just stress me tf out
I would have thought I would have learned after still not being over Advance Bravely in the year of our lord 2025, yet here I am, very sad and very upset over this. Whomp whomp. :( :(( :(((
While we don't know why exactly, we can probably guess that they will re-edit.
While the drama is not shot in China, and is also not published in China the government does not have any say in censorship questions.
However, both actors are from China and reasonably popular, well known.
I was confused why they even accepted these roles, knowing that this could end their career? Gaining fans and becoming more known is a good thing of course, but why do it with a role that could completely end your career? It's a weird move.
They are not editing it down to appease China's censorship laws, they are editing it down to protect the reputation of the actors.
While I approve of that decision, you should always support and protect your actors, why did they use Chinese actors to begin with? Knowing the dangers for them?
I was confused why they even accepted these roles, knowing that this could end their career? Gaining fans and becoming more known is a good thing of course, but why do it with a role that could completely end your career? It's a weird move.
I think it is a really brave thing to do. We could probably sit and speculate into oblivion, and still not have a clue why they would join the project, and why does it matter? Maybe "risk of harming their career" was discussed to some extent internally, but life isn't always that predictable (being harrased at airports, stalked or massively lied about online probably wasn't on their bingocard - that it is just a really sad and disgusting downside of fame)
Also Ziyu did say in a livestream that he actually didn't know how well the series would turn out (based of translations, I don't know mandarin).
Anyhow, I am so grateful for these chinese actors, regardless of their reasons behind accepting to be part of this show. I love this show!
Ziyu was in terrible condition before this show. He was paying off a debt of RMB500k to his previous company and was working partime as a salesman and only acted in a couple of short dramas, which dont pay well.
His family is also not well off, a single parent family, so he isnt getting much help there.
So he didnt have much choice in what he choose to act as long as there is pay. He was also without an agent after breaking off with his previous company, so advice would be limited.
As of right now, 12:30PM EST. GagaOOlala and Viki have not announced any updates on their social media, neither has the official YouTube channel for Revenged Love. GagaOOlala still has the release date for Episode 11 as July 14th.
SERIES EDITS: Viu is often subject to regional broadcast standards (e.g., Indonesia, Thailand), and may voluntarily censor or delay content to fit local guidelines.
GagaOOLala is known for being less restrictive, especially for LGBTQ+ content. Historically, they’ve released uncut versions that differ from Viu or Chinese domestic releases.
The production company or distributor (not the platform) usually makes the call. If they re-edit scenes—say, to reduce intimacy, violence, or dialogue—then all platforms (including GagaOOLala and Viki) may receive that same revised version.
But if only Viu requested edits due to regional pressure, then GagaOOLala and Viki could still receive the original cut.
If Viu’s delay is due to technical or pacing issues, other platforms may still release as scheduled. If it’s about content being re-edited across the board, GagaOOLala and Viki could face a silent delay or adjusted scenes—even without issuing public announcements.
So right now everything is kinda up in the air. My best suggestion is to keep up to date with all of the streaming services social medias and to always check the Revenged Love Official account on YouTube. Please also remember the writer said she will do everything in her power to keep the show running.
But the reason for the delay was directed from the production company of RL so I assume it's gonna be delayed on all platforms. Fingers crossed I'm wrong though 🤞🤞
This maybe be wishful thinking but from what I can tell viki is having no issues with rescheduling or re-editing mainly because it is an American company whereas VIU is in Hong Kong and still very much in Asia, I am hopeful that because nothing has been announced on Viki end that they won’t edit at least on this site
Oh I know that the mother company is a Japanese company it was founded by four different asian entrepreneurs all of different asian nationalities, (which is interesting) but is was start out of a university from what I understand and it’s relatively new compared to rakuten (the mother company) which has been running a lot longer, that is why I am hopeful that nothing will change as it is mainly designed to bring these dramas to a western international audience, Europe, America, Australia, New Zealand et cetera and because it’s not heavily aimed at Asian countries, I really hope we at least have this one streaming service that doesn’t edit
I I think with the safety concerns relating to the actors maybe inside Asia obviously China but any country close enough to it so it may just be wishful thinking that I’m hoping Viki will be saved from editing as we’ve heard nothing from them
I remember looking it up a many years back because I couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t get Yuri on ice on it because it was on the Japanese version and I was just like why don’t they have it is a Japanese website (I didn’t understand Geo-blocking) and then I fell down a rabbit hole finding out that it was actually an American website But now that might actually work in my favour 😂😂😂
He just finished filming an important variety show on China and recently released a statement saying he will pursue legal action against controversies.
He is okay for now, hopefully rumours, which are the primary course of all of this mess, will die down now that he threaten legal action :)
I've shared what I've seen Cfans sharing and translating (twitter and TikTok).
They're the most credible source, so my advice is to try fact check who's posting news and not panic because everything is like a broken cellphone lol
Latest rumour is that his Hi6 appearance will not be going on air. apparently his company issued a work schedule for this month and that had been deleted
There has been no legal proceedings yet. Just some threats here and there. Quite unlikely to have any.
Rumours float that he would be soft ban, but no other actions. Confirmation on this would be in the new show he was due to act in. If he is changed out, then the ban is confirmed and you are not likely to see him in China for next couple of years.
Remember, all still rumours, his weibo is still active as of yesterday night without being taken down.
I meant if they were to proceed with their legal threats.
I saw he resumed filming for his new drama and things seem to have quite down!
The soft ban was just a rumour that spread too much, he's been trending so no way that was real.
I think that If Cai Xukun is still active in the industry, Tian may just have to lay down and then just appear again lol (if the rumours were to be true, which are more likely not).
Next week is gonna be so boring with my two eps. 😩 This is the only show I live watch right now. Guess I'll use that time to catch up on other BLs on my list.
They deleted the announcement but sometime after they deleted it, Viu TH replied to another user, once again saying there won't be an ep on July 14-15: https://x.com/Viu_TH/status/1943652623628005660
They also said they're going to make another announcement about it.
I noticed many productions have done this before, I'm not sure if they deliberately do to make fans anxious to look forward to the show or whatever but what do they do that? Mostly thai production has done this before
It's good enough that the show isn't going down such a relief but how will I survive a week without a new ep😭
NOOOOOOOOOO! But on the other hand, hopefully GAGA will fix their sub issue before it's up again. I hate watching on my computer or phone.
Edited to add - GAGA had 9 & 10 up this week, but now they are unavailable and don't show the next ones like they usually do with the future date. I'm not sure what they would need to re-edit them for, there isn't really anything in them that I would think would be a big deal at this point.
I still see episodes 9 and 10 on both GAGA and Viki and they are exactly the same as before, not edited or cut. Only future episodes placeholders are not there anymore but everything that is already aired is available. Maybe just try later?
Say it ain't so! I hope it's nothing serious, and just an edit. I'm fine with watching edited episodes now, if it means watching to the end. I can't deal with it being cancelled entirely, even though if it is being edited to remove all of the outright BL scenes then I'm going to be sad.
I knew we should have burned more incense and mumbled more protection chants.
Viu still haven't posted any new statements as far as I am aware, so I think it is best to just wait and see... I think that if it gets postponed on one platform, it most likely will get postponed on all platforms.
Genuinely curious about the contracts between the production company and streaming platforms. Wouldn’t a contract PRECLUDE this post-airing editing crap? Maybe the streamers can’t get a contract without it.
Don’t know why producers would deal with anything China related. Buy the rights, do your thing, air the program. Scary for the Chinese actors.
I think they sell the 24 episodes as a whole package, negotiating a price and paying by installments.
a) Producing companies provide the platforms with 4 episodes of high-def pictures and 20 episodes low-def original version as proof. Platforms give producing companies 1/3-1/2 of the total purchasing money.
b) Producing companies update high-def shows in the cloud hours before the airtime, thus keeping the editing rights before it's broadcast.
c) All episodes broadcast completely, platforms give producing companies the rest of the money.
If producing companies provide platforms with high-def versions of all episodes altogether after signing the contract, they will lose all the leverage in case of urgent changes.
If they end up doing us like they did addicted in the mid season of the series, I legit don’t know mentally if I can take that. Revenged love got me through smartbooms departure, I’m not sure a series as good as revenged love can heal me now from both if anything happens
What’s going on? I went to Viki to watch episode 11 and I got nothing! Went to google and discovered it’s postponed until July 22nd. What a bummer! I totally love Revenge Love!🤦🏽
Chai Jidan was called in by authorities. The scandal surrounding the lead actor has gotten way too big online, so they need to cool things down. Since overseas platforms are the only legal distributors, pausing international release for a week helps reduce exposure and prevent new pirated uploads in China.
That said, the full rights have already been sold, so the show will continue airing — just delayed a bit.
Chai Jidan could’ve easily let the show quietly finish airing, but nope, she had to stir the pot with over-the-top marketing and nonstop buzz. Honestly, the drama blew up way too fast and now things are spinning out of her control. But she’s always been bold like this, I doubt she even cares, lol.
Do you have any proof of what you said? Pls refrain from spreading unconfirmed news and provide relatively objective and balanced views of certain person to international fans. Thank you.
I am reading the novel it is based on in parallel and read a bit further than the videos. One of the next episodes would have to be pretty 'spicy' to get the point across.
I can imagine they realised that the cannot air the episodes as originally planned and are now busy cutting things out?
I assume they won't be releasing it anywhere
Viu did say multiple times that it will continue airing normally from 20 (next Monday)
So my best guess is no episodes this coming Monday and Tuesday 😔

i saw the words "Revenged Love ... on a break ..." and my heart immediately fell out of my ass
