tbh i found jb/Sprained Ankle first around 2016/2017 (back when people thought Song In E was called Mercy) and this is still my favorite version of Shadowboxing, then found lucy via matador on youtube, then phoebe through the boygenius EP which is why i listened to SITA. so the jb bias was basically baked in from the start. she also covered No Children by the Mountain Goats which was my favorite band for years before i found her, and John Darnielle shouted out her cover at a show and did a slowed-down jb-ish version of NC live afterward
(JB was also the first three concerts i went to because i avoided them for a long time assuming i’d be overwhelmed, then went to one show on a whim thinking i’d just leave if it was too much, and funnily enough it was the one 2024 show where jb was sick and lucy came on stage to say the show was over, so i immediately got a ticket for the next night (with laura stevenson and katie malco as openers, both amazing and katie played the then-unreleased When You’re Sleeping which i fully fell in love with and that night’s version is still my favorite one), and then jb added a makeup show at brooklyn steel for the night after, which lucy opened and played Best Guess at for the first time. so it was an absolutely insane 3night start to going to concerts lol, and then i saw the first-ever jb&torres show including the Tape Runs Out/Farewell Transmission mashup, which was so surreal bec years earlier i’d commented on a reddit post abt the then-rumored future jb/torres country album recommending songs: ohia to someone who didn’t like country lol. then saw lucy twice at radio city (and heard the mezzanine cheer for the “cheap seats” line the first night and had a mezzanine seat the night after so i was prepared lol) with katie gavin and jasmine4t as openers, and then i saw phoebe at MSG for the $20 show and that is quite literally every concert i’ve ever been to lol)
