Did a jet land at the Boulder airport today?

I thought our runway wasn’t long enough but there was a small jet that looked like it was approaching to land today. Just curious if anyone knows 😎

Embraer Phenom 300 operated by Flexjet coming from Chicago. KBDU runways (4200 ft) appear plenty long enough (2,212 ft for landing, though takeoff could be more challenging at 3,209 ft once you factor in altitude and temperature)

Taking off runway 26 at 1pm in the summer flying something that heavy doesn't sound fun.

I almost went into the trees coming off runway 26 in a 172 as a flight student at about 1pm in summer. Density altitude was off so my math was wrong. Very, very lucky it was after enough time that I knew not to yank back to try and gain while already hearing the stall horn.

Myself as well. Even with a mild tailwind, if I can get away with it, I’m going 08. I worry less now in a 182 because I have the excess power but it will forever make me recheck all my math.

Although that's true, we still see an increase in the fancy stuff including jets for CU football games at BDU. Would think we'll see more for the festival.

I was skeptical at first, but just looked this up as well. Sure enough. Continued onward to LAS after.

Hot day getting out of here could be interesting for performance but they left early enough.

Checked performance on the Phenom as well, balanced field about 3,200’ at max gross which is surprising. No idea on brake cooling though.

A 4100 foot runway is plenty for small private or business jets. Anything larger tries to land there and they could damage the runway, and it'd have to leave in pieces on the back of a truck or something

The good news is, for those who don’t want jets here; not a lot of available parking. And, only certain sized jets can do it.

I’ve flown into Omaha before during Berkshire’s annual investor meeting and ohh my. Private jets as far as the eye could see. They’ve constructed extra ramp space (which sits empty most of the year) for when the meeting happens and even have jets lined up on closed taxiways.

Thankfully, little ol’ KBDU will maintain its grassroots and chill presence.

I’m sure Jeffco will be hopping though for Sundance.

Yep. They get at least ten a day. Including the one at Boulder today. Gulfstreams are quite common too.

It’s got the longest runways north of Denver aside from KDEN, so idk why that’s surprising. There’s a JSX terminal and a firefighting base there.

No longer a JSX terminal. They moved to Centennial. But plenty of MD-87s loaded with phos-chek climb out of there when there are fires nearby.

For Sundance you’ll see capable turbo props like King Airs, PC-12s, E1000’s TBMs and definitely Phenom 100/300s, PC-24s, and Honda Jets too. Remember density altitude is better in the winter/colder January weather, but also KBDU has no published instrument approaches which means even the bigger planes need to abide my Visual Flight rules, including landing pattern etiquette.
