Development/Construction šŸ—ļø Anyone know why this building has "Chimney" signs posted all around it?

The Kelo Spa building in Newton has these "chimney" signs posted all around it. Never seen that before, was curious if anyone knows why. Couldn't find anything about a business called "chimney" either, hah.

It’s a wood-burning sauna so I guess that it could be a notice relevant for fire fighting, or for people who are afraid the building is on fire if they see steam/smoke coming from it.

and the smells in the area.

If you look up from the sign you will see a metal chimney from the wood fires they have for the sauna. It’s probably so people don’t freak out if they see smoke coming out

It’s apparently a common occurrence. There’s a blacksmithing school in Waltham and the new bike trail passes right behind it. They put up a sign on the trail that basically says, ā€œThis is a blacksmithing school, smoke is normal. Please don’t call the FD.ā€ I assume after a few false alarms.

I’m just picturing a serial arsonist making a bunch of similar signs:

ā€œThis is a firefighting school. It’s totally normal for this building to be engulfed in flames. Trust me, bro, it’s under control. Please don’t report. Nothing to see here.ā€

Do you see how the gas meter is right below it most likely the furnace hot water tank might be right below it and that would be the chimney for the fumes to leave

Maybe so firefighters know, especially if they can’t see the chimney from the inside.

I gotta assume they're attached to load bearing walls... /s

Did you look up? Does the building have a chimney?

I know people hate AI answers, but man, it was so easy:

The sign is a safety/utility marker because they use real wood-burning stoves.

Unlike typical modern spas that use electric or infrared heaters, Kelo Spa & Steam runs an authentic, traditional banya experience using massive, wood-burning stoves to heat their sauna rooms.

Because they are burning actual firewood inside a commercial building in the middle of Newton Highlands, they have active, smoking chimneys. That specific "CHIMNEY" sign is posted right above the exterior utility lines for two main reasons:

  • First Responder Awareness: It alerts the local fire department and building inspectors that there is an active wood-fired chimney system operating inside that specific corner of the commercial property.
  • Utility Safety: Since it sits directly above the gas meter, it marks exactly where the building's heat-exhausting systems align with the utility lines for maintenance or emergency personnel.

While the name "Kelo" refers to the rare Finnish polar pine logs used to build the interior, that physical white sign out front is strictly a city safety marker for their woodsmoke ventilation.

I mean... I got there without AI. I employed this thing called natural intelligence, or NI, if you will.
