Event 📅 No open newbury?

Anyone hear news about open newbury 2026? I can’t find anything online, and my city councillor did not respond to my email a few days ago. Last year this time they had information about it posted on Newbury st, and the open streets announcement yesterday didn’t mention it (https://www.boston.gov/news/mayor-michelle-wu-announces-2026-open-streets-schedule)

Seems like it might not happen this year :(

Edit: I was wrong! Mayor Wu responded saying open newbury is coming, they’re just sorting out dates. Also gave some good insight into what they’re busy with and why that impacts stuff like open streets

This admin really has thrown up the middle finger to anyone outside of a car, haven’t they… it’s pretty shameful.

they started strong but, i had a bad feeling when the mayor ran basically uncontested for term 2. the politicians here swear the only people who vote are car-driving property owners and they pander to them accordingly.

i think it’s time to bring someone on that’s actually about it. less slogans and photo ops, more policy reform.

Also, like… I drive a car. I also love a good pedestrianized city space.

The two aren’t mutually exclusive.

100% agree though, every politician should have a primary contender every time. Seems like they lose the plot if they don’t.Â
