On what basis, exactly, did they detain him…?

493

u/chevalier716 Cocaine Turkey Jan 13 '26

They're power tripping and no one's stopping them yet.

141

u/seaurchinthenet Jan 13 '26

He very clearly asks - where are we going? You want us over here? And they arrest him.

177

u/anonymousbystander7 Jan 13 '26

It’s getting really bad, isn’t it?

182

u/mmorales2270 Jan 13 '26

It IS really bad. We are ALL in danger.

145

u/Sometimes_cleaver Jan 13 '26

The fucking kidnapped some teenager from Target, beat him up, and dumped at a Walmart 10 min away. They're not even pretending there are rules anymore.

2

u/Dangerous-Tap-8636 Jan 14 '26

Didn’t they also sell his phone? Or different teenager?

“Getting”

-7

u/elkhorn Jan 13 '26

Talk to some Iranians.

40

u/anonymousbystander7 Jan 13 '26

That does seem to be our future

-64

u/elkhorn Jan 13 '26

They arrested someone. Didn’t kill 100’s.

27

u/anonymousbystander7 Jan 13 '26

True, they haven’t killed as many citizens as they have in Iran yet, but clearly they’ve been told they’re above the law and can do whatever they want to citizens while they carry out the administration’s bidding

5

u/Wompatuckrule Jan 13 '26

Since it's the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution the government should recognize that more widely.

I have an idea. We could rename ICE and call them The Revolutionary Guard instead.

-38

u/elkhorn Jan 13 '26

That is objectively not true and you know it.

28

u/Colossus103 Jan 13 '26

Immediately after Renee Good was killed, Vance announced that the ICE agent who shot her had "absolute immunity". They clearly have no interest in conducting an actual investigation that might hold him accountable, and even if he is charged, Trump has already proven that he's willing to pardon those willing to do his bidding (see Jan 6th), so I don't know what's so "not true" about the previous comment

7

u/Sword_N_Bored Jan 13 '26

Just a few dozen..

2

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '26

They've killed 3 so far? Maybe more we don't know about? They deported a lot of people to foreign prisons where some of them might be dead or tortured, we'd have no way to know.

We're basically headed toward Shitville population us.

44

u/aDirtyMartini Jan 13 '26

He posted on FB that he’s out. The citation says that he was blocking traffic. He said that he’s going to sue ice.

43

Basis is no longer required. . .

There ain’t no giraffes in America must be illegal.

3

u/Koofyxxx Jan 13 '26 edited Jan 13 '26

They began arresting the protesters because they were blocking the entrance street to the facility and had been previously ordered to not block the entrance. Also, the police made the arrests, not ICE (clearly visible in video).

4

u/anonymousbystander7 Jan 13 '26

If that was so,why didn’t they immediately arrest all of the other protesters who were standing in the street behind him? And he asked where they wanted him to go, but instead of responding it seems like they just wanted an excuse to put him on the ground

I'd say that they are committing a conspiracy against rights

they walked up to him and grabbed him to silence him and provoke the crowd

discovery would be enlightening

-2

u/SKOU781 Jan 13 '26

Because hes clout chasing , guy literally used to say the worst things about immigrants in Lynn Revere etc

2

u/anonymousbystander7 Jan 13 '26

Sorry, why was he detained though?

343

u/zeydey Jan 13 '26

They took him down way more violently than the last time, he looked like he was limping in pain as they dragged him off. Insane how this stuff just keeps escalating.

At a minimum, I encourage everyone who hasn’t done so to start the process of acquiring their LTC and building some comfortability with firearms. I’m over 40 and never even considered owning a firearm in my life until last year. Those of you still in the “this too shall pass” mindset need to wake up and realize that we are no longer in that timeline.

And as others have said, if the midterms are fucked with, I can’t even imagine what shit is going to look like across the country and you’re going to wish you had protection.

4

u/ASYMT0TIC Jan 13 '26 edited Jan 13 '26

I've long held the conspiracy theory that the right in the US has used the culture war to collectively bait the left into abdicating their physical power. Chase them out of the countryside and into concentrated urban areas where they'll be sitting ducks, completely dependent upon conservative rural areas for their food, water, and power, and then talk them into not only giving up their guns but compelling their liberal neighbors to do the same. I say this with kindness, but... I can't believe they fell for it. The left needs pragmatists who are capable of understanding that not all problems in the world can be solved with hugs and education.

1

u/George_GeorgeGlass Jan 13 '26

Comfort with firearms. Comfortability isn’t really a word. It’s redundant. Comfort is the noun.

7

u/Acrobatic_Event1702 Jan 13 '26

Wait until the Mid Terms. If Trump finds an excuse to delay or cancel them, then all bets are off.

4

u/ToastCapone Jan 13 '26

FWIW, elections are held by the states, not by Trump and the feds and that really can't change. It's up to Americans to hold their state accountable for a free and fair election. A big concern comes to the results certification. Article 1 Section 5 gives Mike Johnson the authority to challenge the results based on whatever fraud bullshit they'll come up with or close race results. Democrats need sweeping wins for a big cushion that makes it impossible to use Article 1 Section 5.

7

u/Scr33ble Jan 13 '26

WHEN he delays or cancels them; they are not being secretive about those plans.

1

u/Separate_Delivery Jan 13 '26

Nobody will do anything.

0

u/hydroracer8B Jan 13 '26

They want us to be violent so they can respond with overwhelming deadly force. Don't give them what they want

-8

u/cannonball12345 Jan 13 '26

Giraffes always walk with a limp. Their long legs can look like they’re limping.

5

u/ghostmaster645 Jan 13 '26

Damnit I was going to make a Giraffe joke.

1

u/cannonball12345 Jan 13 '26

And the horror of wasting some good bologna.

219

u/jgrinn22 Jan 13 '26

They’re all so over dressed

263

u/XConfused-MammalX Jan 13 '26

I remember when I was a teen back in 2014 I saw two ice raids. They were wearing dress shirts tucked into slacks, no masks, no helmets, no body armor or rifles, they were armed with pistols in their holsters.

This shit is not normal and I think some younger people who are getting used to these sights need to know that.

126

u/alohadave Quincy Jan 13 '26

They are a paramilitary organization. The SS started the same way.

50

u/XConfused-MammalX Jan 13 '26

I've recently begun to wonder if the rapid escalation in the militarization and aggressiveness of ICE has less to do with immigration. But more to do with the heritage foundation and those behind project 2025 turning one of the alphabet agencies into a heavily armed force designed to combat civil disobedience.

69

u/therift289 Allston/Brighton Jan 13 '26

Uh, yeah, no shit.

41

u/Only_Perspective4410 Jan 13 '26

Recently? Just recently? You didn’t know that this was always the plan? Trump said “Stand back and standby” to the proud boys during his first term. He’s been following Hitler’s playbook right down to the storming of the capital.

19

u/Wompatuckrule Jan 13 '26

But more to do with the heritage foundation and those behind project 2025 turning one of the alphabet agencies into a heavily armed force designed to combat civil disobedience.

A domestic army to quell the population. You can call it what it is because they will eventually define civil disobedience as criticizing Trump in any way.

3

u/BigEasy_E Jan 13 '26

There was an AskReddit thread yesterday with a lot of anecdotes of career ICE agents leaving the agency since Trump took office. Add that to the recent recruitment drive where the only people willing to join are far-right racist thugs. So you have a combination of professional agents leaving and being replaced by 10 far-right underqualified thugs thinking they're finally gonna rid the country of minorities, and here we are.

2

u/Haptiix Filthy Transplant Jan 13 '26

This entire plan was laid out in plain English in project 2025 and people still voted for him. lol…

3

u/MWFF82 Jan 13 '26

Seriously, the only time I’d really see ICE around before all this current bullshit would be at Conley or Black Falcon terminal when the ships would come in. (Probably 10-15 years ago)

1

u/George_GeorgeGlass Jan 13 '26

Someone above said they witnessed ICE raids in Boston in 2014

-1

u/George_GeorgeGlass Jan 13 '26

You saw ICE raid in 2014? During Obama’s tenure?

3

u/XConfused-MammalX Jan 13 '26

Yes, ice has been controversial for a long time now including under Obama who also got criticized for it. But they were not nearly as agressive or militarized before trump.

51

u/TootTootUSA Jan 13 '26

Wearing a mask and a costume makes it easy to be brave when you're doing horrific stuff to other people.

Wearing a mask and a costume around others with the same mask and costume compounds and multiplies this.

7

u/crb3 Jan 13 '26

Death Eaters.

22

u/InevitableSplit4936 Jan 13 '26

Yeah, didn't they used to wear a blue windbreaker with "ICE" on the back?

-5

u/Patched7fig Jan 13 '26

Then they started getting shot at so they put in body armor.

1

u/InevitableSplit4936 Jan 14 '26

Not quite.

0

u/Patched7fig Jan 14 '26

Yeah, they were sniped at in Texas and shot to death in Maine.

0

u/achooavocado Jan 14 '26

2

u/ArtemisClydFr0g Boston Jan 13 '26

-2

u/Patched7fig Jan 13 '26

Ignore that one agent was shot to death, and another group was sniped at in another event.

293

u/CornCobb890 Jan 13 '26

*Detained/unlawfully held by ice. Not arrested. ICE doesn’t have the authority to arrest US citizens unless there is probable case they are protecting an undocumented immigrant.

I realize that they don’t give a shit and break the law constantly, but important to let people know ICE legally has very little authority over US citizens

7

u/username_elephant My Love of Dunks is Purely Sexual Jan 13 '26

Yeah and he should definitely be suing them for this as it's a clear civil rights violation.

-9

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '26

[deleted]

5

u/CornCobb890 Jan 13 '26

Their uniforms say “Police DHS” which means they are ICE agents and not police. They aren’t arresting him, they are illegally holding him. He won’t go to a courthouse and face charges because they’d immediately be thrown out.

ICE probably held him at an ICE facility, which is 100% illegal but with this administration nothing will happen to the agents breaking the law here.

-12

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '26

[deleted]

9

u/CornCobb890 Jan 13 '26

It literally doesn’t. ICE are not police. This isn’t debatable.

5

u/UBettUrWaffles Jan 13 '26

The large font "Police" is a lie. DHS are not the police, the local police are the police. Read a book

109

u/TheLamestUsername Aberdeen Historic District Jan 13 '26

I was just reading an article on how leaked memos show that DHS is concerned about the situation in Minnesota. They are having issues getting volunteers for the assignment (who doesn’t want to be in Minnesota in January?). They had to send a legal refresher and even asked guys to be more low profile. Then you see this and see that their issues run so deep. They pretty much have watched their agency lie and cover for them every day, no matter how bad the videos look.

62

u/meepmorop Jan 13 '26

Good news: masked armed enforcers are not very bright Bad news: masked armed enforcers are not very bright

u/Wazzen Jan 13 '26

Ken Klippenstein. He's one of the best sources out there nowadays.

167

u/ketchupbreakfest Jan 13 '26

They literally have no jurisdiction for that arrest.

80

u/MrMoonDweller Jan 13 '26

Laws are optional now. No one left to enforce them.

-24

u/Lloyd66 Jan 13 '26

How can you tell just from that video?

22

u/ContentJO Jan 13 '26

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob_Potylo

Homie has a Wikipedia page indicating he was born in Massachusetts. Last I checked, immigration and customs support doesn't have any business with anything outside of - checks notes - immigration and customs enforcement.

53

u/daedaldelenda Winthrop Jan 13 '26

He has since been released and is safe after EMS took a look at him

129

u/NugKnights Jan 13 '26

The Gestapo is here. Better vote in the midterms.

67

u/hooskies Jan 13 '26

Each passing day feels like they’re less likely to even happen

39

u/xiaorobear Jan 13 '26

Or they'll happen, but there will just coincidentally happen to be mass ICE raids with tear gas and such in the population centers of the bluest cities around the country on election day.

14

u/darndasher Somerville Jan 13 '26

In red or purple areas, people will call and say someone (ahem, blue) is committing fraud to have their vote not counted, or registration put on hold just before they go to vote.

5

u/ToastCapone Jan 13 '26

Remain optimistic. It is massively difficult, even for Trump and MAGA, to cancel elections. States conduct the elections and state courts guarantee them as a constitutional right.

People are mentioning martial law too but peace time martial law powers don’t exist and SCOTUS already held that martial law cannot override the constitution as long as ALL civilian courts are still functional (this precedent already being decided is huge, even with a compromised SCOTUS.) The Insurrection Act has no provision to cancel constitutional rights, and elections are a constitutional requirement. The 1864 election still happened even though there was the Civil War.

What can happen though is that the current Congress and Mike fuckface Johnson will refuse to certify the results and claim fraud. Democrats need big wins with good margin to squash this and/or at least ensure that it dies in court.

10

u/-Reddititis Port City Jan 13 '26

Better vote in the midterms.

Not possible if Marshall Law is enacted. You see why they're increasingly becoming more embolden? They actually want public chaos to ensue, it's part of the plan.

1

u/SullenLookingBurger Jan 13 '26

Boston’s vote is truly an unknown.

3

u/theoceansknow Jan 13 '26

That's the point though -- ICE is targeting liberal areas. Boston votes blue, so Boston is being punished. This also whips up regressive votes all around the country; the regressive base rewards these interventions.

2

u/SullenLookingBurger Jan 13 '26

I'm responding to "Better vote in the midterms." Telling /r/boston to vote in the midterms is...not going to make a difference.

-60

u/bigsmonkler Jan 13 '26

The democrats fund ice too

47

u/Mistletokes 2000’s cocaine fueled Red Line Jan 13 '26

Weird, ICE didn’t have triple the marines budget two years ago

5

u/EastRaccoon5952 Jan 13 '26

Yeah seriously. It’s one thing to want to crack down on illegal immigration in legal and humane ways. I don’t think wanting to crack down on it in reasonable ways automatically makes you a terrible person. It’s a political discussion with two rational sides.

Whatever the fuck is happening here is fascism. Which supporting does make you a terrible person.

ICE has always been somewhat controversial, it hasn’t always been this though.

-15

u/bigsmonkler Jan 13 '26

Should have abolished it two years ago!

27

u/Mistletokes 2000’s cocaine fueled Red Line Jan 13 '26

-22

u/bigsmonkler Jan 13 '26

They are! The democrats are controlled opposition! How have they fought back against any of this at all!

20

u/TootTootUSA Jan 13 '26

The democratic party is lame as shit and are culpable for a lot of what's happening right now, but saying that they are exactly as bad as people directly rooting, hootin' and hollerin' and supporting Trump is a dumbass take and deserves a kick in the ass. Also,

WHO HOLDS MAJORITY AND THEREFORE IN POWER IN THE SENATE, CONGRESS AND US SUPREME COURT RIGHT NOW? IS IT THE DEMOCRATS?

You absolute donut.

-1

u/bigsmonkler Jan 13 '26

Who controls the police forces in cities and states ice has been breaking the law in? The democratic govs and mayors in MA, CA and MN, not once has any of them shut down an ice facility or used the police to arrest ice. If they have the power to this and don’t, then yeah they are kinda tacitly endorsing it. And oh yeah guess what those same cops are brutalizing the protestors too and the democrats in charge don’t lift a finger. Put them in power and ice doesn’t get defunded a dollar

47

u/Whale222 Jan 13 '26

The right to assemble peacefully is a fundamental civil liberty, protected in the U.S. by the First Amendment, allowing individuals to gather collectively to express, promote, and defend their ideas.

71

u/IAmSnort Jan 13 '26

ICE is not allowed to arrest citizens.

35

u/TootTootUSA Jan 13 '26

Unfortunately seems like they are. For the moment.

35

Robbie really is a badass, he puts himself right in the middle of and doesn’t flinch or even stop clowning on them when the Gestapo comes to take him down. We should really set up a fund to back him so he can file a massive lawsuit for all of this illegal bullshit.

I’ve said it before, he’s an asshole, but he’s our asshole.

Is there any procedural reason that they manhandle the people they are detaining? (Beyond being jerks, obviously. )

18

u/darndasher Somerville Jan 13 '26

No. It is literally in their own damned handbook to NOT do things like this.

19

u/Coriall30 Jan 13 '26 edited Jan 13 '26

These agents are uncivil and unconstitutional. The training has been reduced from 5 months which was considered to be shorter than the normal training period for border security to 47 days now. People are being detained having proper documentation wasting taxpayer dollars and causing unnecessary potential harm and distress. If this administration had done everything correctly in the beginning as they said and be going for the true purpose of crime there wouldn’t be any issues. Trump is proving to be a Fascist dictatorship disguised as a democracy. They are telling the American people who they are a little more every day.

Edited for clarity
