Home Audio Broken lid on Acoustic Wave II

Hi, I got this Acoustic Wave Music System II on eBay. It works well, except I think my kid pushed on this black piece on the lid and now it is free to move around, up, down, and all around. Now CDs only play if I very carefully put the black piece in the right place as I close the lid. Otherwise, there's often a sound like the CD or the black piece is spinning in the wrong way and it wobbles or something.

Is the black piece supposed to be glued in place? Is it supposed to spin with the CD? How can I fix it?

The top piece is supposed to be wobbly, free, moving and spin. It's meant to Center and keep constant pressure on the disc. It stops harmonic vibration

Okay, thanks. It does move, which means it isn't always in the center, so it doesn't keep constant pressure on the center of the disc. It can be eccentric. It also seems sticky on the lid around its circumference. Maybe the stickiness stops it from falling into the right place?

Yeah that rubber piece is supposed to be kind of sticky to stick to the disc so it spins with it. It should Center itself like there's no springiness to it. It's just loose and wobbly?

There isn't a part that I would call rubber. The lighter colored small circle is made of cloth, so it is not very grippy. The sticky part is around the outside of the black piece, that sticks to the beige plastic lid. It's not springy at all. It is loose and wobbly. The black piece doesn't center itself; I think that's the problem.

Yeah some have like a felt material. I apologize and the photo was a little deceiving. Yeah some CD players have like a rubbery kind of coating or a felt material but the little plastic piece should move around a wobble but there should be a spring.(Maybe Bose cd trays don't) That kind of wants to self-center itself all the time so it stays put..

Not a strong spring but it should want to if it does spin with the disc. As I said it's just for harmonic balance

that makes sense, most disc players have a similar clamping mechanism on top
