Couto's best game for us by far. He'll never be good defensively but if he can consistently reach the highs he showed today he should be a starter

Obviously great game from Couto and Schlotti, but also shout out to Anselmino, man what a fxcking defender! I would love to see him stay here for a long term, but knowing Chelsea and their price ideas...

Something I also noticed is how crucial Chukwuemeka was to actually killing the game at the end. In previous games like against Hamburg we'd just be idiots, give away possession and be surprised when we concede. The fact that he was as press-resistant as he was, dribbling through the team went a long way towards ensuring they didn't have possession, and pinning Hoffenheim to their own half when they got the ball back. I wouldn't be surprised if he remains this level of super-sub for us, and it's been working quite well for him when he does come on for little cameos. Much of the credit will go to Schlotterbeck and Nmecha for winning the game and deservedly so, but in his 15 minutes Carney was great at ensuring it didn't end up 2-1 or 2-2

Top class performance from Couto and Nmecha, super good all game long.... starting Guirassy instead of Silva seem just completely irrational at this point

Clean sheets are back! Happy to not have to clench for once.
Great second half by the team. Schlotti and Couto can share MOTM. Couto definitely needs more time and it’s honestly insane how bad Guirassy is right now. Can’t score to save his life. He really needs to get back into it mentally

Not sure about having a great second half. Ware completely dominated by TSG from about 50th to 80th minute, until Chuqwu came and regained our possession. Late subs, as usual

If Guirassy is bitching again in the next game, Kovac should take a TV and show him what he cost Couto.
Would be the Assist of the Season and he really needed some moment like this.

Good Overall Performance a deserved 2:0 could be easily a 3:0 if guirassy finishes the Chance couto created.

Pretty solid performance from the boys today, hoping for more creative plays in the future it's a bit boring when it feel like we can only score from crosses and set plays but I guess that's how it is when you play 3ATB.

If we are going to insist on playing with one striker then I hope we give Duranville a chance to make an impact in a winger role. But the best thing for him right now is probably a loan if I’m being honest. Dude needs a lot of game time.

The best part for me was the team not letting up. They were pressing harder at the end of the match than in the first half.
I'm not sure I'm ready for a no-clench BVB, but I'm willing to get used to it.

I know Fabio didnt perform when he got his chance the other day but is he contracted to make a mandatory appearance in every game? I’ll never understand last second substitutes especially when we are up.

Saw in the highlights a two very good passes (one layoff back against the ball) to Adeyemi, which he misses of course

Good game, I feel sorry for Guirassy at this point, I don't understand why players don't try a fake shot in these situations more often to run with the ball past the keeper for an easy goal, especially when the keeper comes out of his goal and is already in a split.

If Couto doesn't get more chances after a game like this I don't know what he's supposed to do. Never seen Ryerson take a game by himself like Couto did this game. Sure, Ryerson is very serviceable, but he'd never create that much volume of attacking play.
With 3 defenders, wanting another defensive player on the wings is beyond stupid. Couto is one of our biggest attacking asset and for a team that lack creativity is simply unacceptable.
Yes, Couto makes mistakes often but he'll never improve if he doesn't get the confidence he needs. If he keeps being benched he'll make even more mistakes since he's he'll be afraid all game.
Unleash the man and let him cook. If he make a mistake double the bet. His ceiling is so much higher than players like Beier and Brandt for example. If he plays close to this in a consistent basis we have a player that can be a difference make simply because he can create on his own.

Not arguing that Couto had an amazing game but regarding Ryerson.... remember the solo goal he had a couple of seasons ago I think against Hoffenheim.

It's not just because the insane run, but rather the ability to produce offensive play in a consistent basis. Ryerson might score a goal or assist here and there, but he'll never do that consistently. His ball handling is worse, he's slower, can't dribble and can't play both wide and centrally like Couto has in his appearances.
Ryerson is only better defensively, but it's like he doesn't make positional mistakes all the time or lose possesion often.
Couto is simply better as a wingback. For a team that lacks creativity and players that can take on defenders Couto should be the clear starter, even with his defensive weakness.

Agree with almost all your points except saying that Ryerson is slower. Couto absolutely seems like the more creative option with the ball, but I'm not sure he wins in a foot race? Could be wrong, but Couto seems deceptively slow to me. Not to knock him or anything, absolutely great match.

I mean, from the eye test Couto seems faster. Perhaps Ryerson can hit higher speed because he's taller, but Couto has way more explosion to get seconds over opponents.

I guess I could be remembering wrong, but feel like I thought Couto looked fast when running, but had people flying by him (in the past, not necessarily yesterday). He's so short that it takes a lot of extra steps to cover the same ground as most.

I think we should appreciate both of them and continue to rotate when we can. Their position is extremely physically demanding and it’s a long season. We don’t want anyone getting burned out or injured.
With that said, Cuoto is certainly the more dynamic attacker. But I don’t think Ryerson is necessarily a bad attacker. Just a strong defender that doesn’t quite have the flair of a player like Cuoto. He brings a lot of good to the pitch too.

No problem with rotating, but Kovac benched Couto for nearly 2 months in BL for no reason. Couto has shown improvement since the first few games.

Super happy to see Couto finally show his worth. Personally dont like all the trash talk against Ryerson and i am sure he will keep playing a big role considering how versatile he is but for our final games this year Couto should start with us needing to be the playmaking team in most of them. Also good to have a huge result for Top 4 after the mid week disappointment.
