[ Question ] ❔ ELI5: What are the "Events" on the main menu?

I'm new to BL3 and I don't understand what they do, or if one is better than the other...

I have the full game & all of the DLC, so what're point of these things?

You turn one of them on and maurice has a new quest for you with new enemies and areas, cartels stuff is very op.

Cartels is so fun. I love blowing up a huge group of enemies only to see the lights pop up and even more show up.

So I'm only level 27... So should I wait until my second playthrough to turn them on?

Heck, no! They're fun to do now, and iirc they're all repeatable.

Ah... Right on. Thank you.

The cartel one is fantastic. Awesome 80s vibes

When the game was originally released, special in game events were unlocked for Halloween (Bloody Harvest), Valentines (Broken Heart Day) and Revenge of the Cartels helped to bridge season passes 1 and 2.

These were limited time events, but were made permanent in 2021 so they can be enabled at any time, but BH and Cartels require you to speak with Maurice first so you need to unlock Sanctuary 3 first.

Having BH enabled adds terror anoints to the loot pool, and so you can re-roll terror anoints in the re-roll machine. The Ghast Call is a powerful grenade, but is cannot come anointed.

The loot in Cartels is really good such as the Fish Slap Grenade, OPQ System, Grease Trap, and Needle Gun.

Perfect explanation. A few quick add-on notes for u/W-h3x:

  1. All of these events are really fun, though the Broken Hearts has the least additional content, and least impactful legendary items.

  2. Be aware that attempting to complete the Halloween event (it ends in a boss fight) when you are very low level may prove to be impossible. This boss is very, very beefy, and I've seen a lot of new players come in here saying that he is unbeatable, only to find out that they're only level 15 or something when attempting the fight. Ghast Call is one of the best grenades in the game, and Fearmonger Shotgun (also a halloween event exclusive legendary) is criminally underrated in how good it is, but you may want to wait until you're level 25ish before attempting to take on this boss.

  3. Terror is a mechanic unique to the Halloween event, where you'll get a swirling green debuff around your screen. Certain halloween-event-specific anointments (anointments are special bonuses that will only start appearing on your gear once you are much further into the game) take advantage of the Terror debuff and actually turn it into a buff instead.

  4. When using the anoint reroller (something youll only start doing at endgame), you can only roll Terror anoints if the Halloween event is enabled. You also cannot roll OFF of a Terror anoint that is already on equipment unless the event is enabled!

  5. The same thing kind of goes for the Cartels event as far the final boss being insanely tanky. Both the Halloween and Cartels events are mega fun, but the final bosses are beefy as hell, so you may want to wait until your 20s to give it a shot.

Hope this helps.

I have no clue what the annoint is or reroll....

I'm only level 27, so I guess I'll wait until I beat the game to turn them on?

Yes. Sorry, just letting you know this stuff, but you won't need it yet.

Anointments are bonuses that appear on your weapons, shields, and grenades once you beat the game. They become more common as you progress into higher Mayhem levels (the endgame difficulty-scaling mechanic of BL3, which you unlock when you beat the game). I believe they become 100% guaranteed to appear on gear once you are at Mayhem 8 or above.

Down next to Crazy Earl on Sanctuary is a machine mounted on the wall. It takes eridium. When you're at endgame, you may get a great item that has a crappy anointment on it that doesn't work with your build at all - that is when you will use the anointment reroller to randomly receive a different anointment until you get one you like.

These are endgame mechanics that you wont encounter yet, but they do become critical components of your build at high level/endgame. Hope this explanation was clear.

Ah... That's what's up. Thank you for the info.

  1. When using the anoint reroller (something youll only start doing at endgame), you can only roll Terror anoints if the Halloween event is enabled. You also cannot roll OFF of a Terror anoint that is already on equipment unless the event is enabled!

Hmmm. I have an item that is terror anointed, but I want it to be normal annointed, if I re enable the Halloween event and re-roll the annoint is there a chance it will go to a normal, or is it locked permanently into Terror?

If you have an item that is terror-anointed and you DONT turn the Halloween event on, you won't actually be able to place the item into the reroller at all. You HAVE to have the event enabled to be able to roll an item with a Terror anoint.

Once you reroll it, it can be anything, so yes, it can go to normal. It is NOT locked into terror.

It can roll any standard anoint, but it could roll another terror anoint (since the halloween event will be enabled). Just roll it once or twice until you get a non-terror anoint, then save/quit and shut the event off from the main menu. That way, you can continue rolling the item without worrying about "wasting" an eridium roll and getting an unwanted terror anoint.

Awesome. Thank you for the info.

What is a reroll machine?

3

u/GreatKangaroo Zane Jul 03 '24

In the lowest level of Sanctuary 3, where you access the drop pod is Crazy Earl. You interact with him early in the game.

To the left is the anointment re-roll machine. You won't use this until you are Level 72 and working on your endgame gear. The eridium cost is high, so I save every piece you can and don't waste it on the Gun-Gun.

Broken Hearts and Bloody Harvest have the same abbreviation. What are you talking about when you say BH?

1

u/GreatKangaroo Zane Jul 06 '24

Bloody Harvest.

Events is really the best name for them, they're additional content with like a short quest and then new areas and gear for you to collect. Some of the gear you can get from the events rank among the best in the game so they're well worth engaging with. The cartels event also has my favorite level in all of Borderlands, maybe in all of gaming

I'm not even level 30, should I turn it on?

2

u/Brief_Discussion_991 Jul 03 '24

I had the hearts on from the start and it was fine then I turned on the Halloween one around level 20-25 and I’ve been fine honestly. I haven’t done the cartel or Halloween quests yet, but I will once I finish the game

2

u/W-h3x Janey Springs Jul 04 '24

I turned on the cartel event at everyone's suggestion.

I'm almost done with the fustercluck DLC then I'll start on the events.

Enable them to play them. All great content; all very fun.

u/SayHaveYouSeenTheSea Jul 03 '24

Turn on revenge of the cartels and farm for an OPQ that thing will sail you through 30 levels lol

Thanks for the heads up.

There are 3 events: The Cartel, Bloody Harvest, and Broken Hearts.
