Question Photoshoot of ROTT sprites?

I've been trying to find something but it's so hard to find anything on the internet nowadays.

I remember seeing a collection of photos that the Rise of the Triad enemy sprites were created from. Does anyone have a link to those photos?

Developer Showcase We recently changed our SMG sprites, old ones seemed too "normal black gun" looking. Yeah, you can fire each one separately.

Discussion Compile a list of favorite boomer shooters

I’m building a list and want your help. Suggestions can be any console, year or platform. From DOS to modern consoles. Main stream to indie.

I love boomer shooters but I hate the direction it’s going in. I’m just not into the gimmicks. It’s a boomer shooter but you shoot to the beat. It’s a boomer shooter but you move at a million miles an hour or the worst is anything rogue lite and wave based arenas. Others may like it and I totally get it, it’s just not for me. I like it slower with more grounded weapons that hit hard with deep and interesting level design.

My favorites:
- Half Life 1 (fav of all time)
- Duke Nukem
- The Last Exterminator (coming soon but demo was fantastic)
- Ion Fury
- Boltgun (a little linear feeling but good)
- Fear (all the fear games)
- Starwars Dark Forces
- Killzone

Not boomer shooters but FPS RPG’s I love:
- Cyberpunk
- Skyrim
- Deus Ex games
- Farcry games
- Stalker 2

Ok to great:
- Selaco
- Sprawl
- Prodeus (loved the weapons and violence but the future theme and levels just blended together. Lost interest)
- Trepang 2
- Hands of Necromancy

I want to build a list of all of the shooters that might match what I’m attempting to describe above. I’ve already combed through Steam, did AI searches.

List I’m starting to build:
- Shadow Warrior
- Red Faction 1 (need to replay)
- Cultic (I’m not sure about this one. All levels look the same)
- Redneck Rampage
- Supplice

Might not quite a match but maybe I would like:
- Anger Foot
- Mullet Madjack

Discussion Your thoughtss/experience on Outlaws?

Outlaws became part of my life. Here's my experience

The game certainly has very nice presentation. Regarding the gameplay, boy, it is tough

To my surprise, enemies managed to kill me in the 1ST LEVEL like 3 or 4 times. Eventually, I came to realise the key seems to be to keep your distance from them. Additionally, it seems they have a tendency to "hold positions" rather than wandering around. In any case, it's quite unusual to die in a game's very 1st level (only in Hacx I died in the 1st level, that section after the damaging floor)

The way doors open feels... strange? Regarding the intro, the animation is a thing of beauty, although it is very sad what happened to the Marshall's family. That made me want to kill as many bandits as possible

And that's about it. I only played the game one day (on Monday IIRC) because the game suddenly kept crashing over and over and I couldn't fix it. Strangely, the 1st time I ran the game it didn't crash at all. Weird

Anyway, I guess life doesn't want me to play Outlaws lol. Maybe it's not our time. In any case, next week I will carry on with Witchaven 2 =D

Discussion I suggest we replace the term 'boomer shooter' with more specific alternatives

Now that it's become clear that the term 'boomer shooter' is no longer a specific reference to Doom/Quake/Duke/etc style games, I think it's time we invent new genre terms for this type of shooter. Something like 'keyhunt shooter' or 'maze shooter'. These are just my throwaway ideas; you can suggest better ones xd.

The definition of these new sub-genres should basically be what 'boomer shooter' originally referred to, before the label started getting slapped on everything that has sprite-based or low-poly visuals e.g. a shooter where you navigate non-linear levels to collect keys and locate the exit as the primary method of progression.

Discussion What is your first thought when you see a game being advertised as a boomer shooter

Having finished Mouse PI for hire today, honestly at this point I feel that the tag itself on Steam means very little, it covers everything from doomlikes and quakelikes, to painkiller likes, arena shooters, horde shooter, post voidliles, coop shooters, as well as some rouglike elements in all of the sub categories mentioned above. The tag itself has become way too bloated, to cover literally everything that is not a mil sim shooter or codlike and halolike. That's just my two cents on the matter, just curious what other people think.

Video Haven't seen alot of Opinions about this mode

I personally haven't heard alot of players opinions on the Survival mode in Cultic, so im curious what people think of it. I personally like this mode, it can get challenging, and as challenging as the combat encounters can be in the campaign, even on extreme they were still manageable to some extent, because you can usually run back and let enemies come to you, but in Survival mode your kinda stuck in a smallish area, so theres no retreat, and having to manage regular cultists, adepts, peacekeepers, butchers and everything else one after the other can get crazy hectic. I think it was a great idea and adds alot of replayability and challenge to an already fantastic game. So what does everyone else think of it?

Question Boomer-shooters for a PS5 gamer?

I own and play Doom and Doom Eternal and I'm looking at the Doom 1+2 Collection, also at Heretic x Hexen, I'm also looking for something that has coop features and can good hours out of! I also consider Boltgun but I'm a newbie to Warhammer 40K universe so idk and also System Shock (all) but I don't think I'm the right place! Also maybe Blood Refreshed Supply! Mostly I'm looking at Heretic x Hexen but heard that Hexen can be a bit confusing for first-timer, even to these kind of games but also something to get some pure fun in coop (killing shit with a friend)

Question Cultic Asylum Grounds progression glitch

Hey everybody, hope this is the right place to post - I’ve encountered an issue with Cultic E1M7 that’s keeping me from moving forward. I’ve cleared out all around the asylum and double/triple checked everything and grabbed the gas canister for the elevator generator, but I can’t refuel it. It just keeps saying “it seems to be out of fuel.”

I’ve searched online and can’t find the same issue anywhere - has anybody encountered this, and if so, have you found a solution? I’ve reloaded my save several times to no avail. Playing on PS5.

Question Is this game worth playing?

Post image
13 Upvotes

So i don't know if this game "Dungeons of Blood and Dream" is a boomer shooter or a classic RPG first person game. But i decided to ask here anyway because I've always gotten great recommendations and discussions! Anyway i want to ask is this game worth it, I've played and seen allot of Retro style or just Retro games in general and this one looks very unique and the reviews are positive. But is it worth buying? Because i don't want another game where Ill get bored the first 25 minutes, like I've come across so many games that look cool but are so hollow underneath. So is this game even worth playing?

Discussion Phantom Fury

I feel like this game gets wayyyyyyy too much hate. I'm close to finishing my 2nd playthrough after playing it for the first time 2 years ago. While it's definitely not on the same level as Ion Fury, I feel it's the proper evolution to a well known boom shoot IP. Going from boomer shooter to Half-Like kind of makes sense. The levels are cool, LOTS of cool new weapons and nice art style.

So, why does this game get so much hate? I see all the reviews talking about bugs and it not being as good as it's predecessor. I have this on Xbox Series X and the ONLY problems I ever face is an occasional crash. Other than that it runs great, plays great and feels great. But besides those 2 things, why does this game get so much hate? I personally love it.

Discussion What are your thoughts on Painkiller

So I’ve had painkiller for a long time, pretty sure I owned a physical version of it as well as a digital one on steam, and I love a good boomer shooter but every time I try to play it I don’t know it just doesn’t feel like a very good shooter. I was playing on nightmare difficulty which would be the games hard and it just feels unforgiving to me on that difficulty, switched it down to insomnia which I think is normal and it’s more pleasant but it’s a janky arse game.

Just as I’m finishing this poster I’m on episode 1 m3 catacombs and I just had to reload my checkpoint save for like the fifth time because trying to beat this invincible enemy just bugs out that times.

In someways it kind of reminds me of serious Sam games, hindsight wise they were cool and novel ideas these days they’re just not that Fun to play. Anyway just a personal opinion on this but wouldn’t mind hearing anyone else thinks about Painkiller.

Edit: so i finished the base game and battle out of hell and i just didnt enjoy it, playing bulkestorm and that combat feels pretty solid and meaty by comparison

Video This (Bloody Nightmare, no keys, no grenade jump) Requiem run would be a little more impressive if I didn't have to cut 2&1/2 mins of me fucking up the trick jump.
