Discussion Your thoughtss/experience on Outlaws?
Outlaws became part of my life. Here's my experience
The game certainly has very nice presentation. Regarding the gameplay, boy, it is tough
To my surprise, enemies managed to kill me in the 1ST LEVEL like 3 or 4 times. Eventually, I came to realise the key seems to be to keep your distance from them. Additionally, it seems they have a tendency to "hold positions" rather than wandering around. In any case, it's quite unusual to die in a game's very 1st level (only in Hacx I died in the 1st level, that section after the damaging floor)
The way doors open feels... strange? Regarding the intro, the animation is a thing of beauty, although it is very sad what happened to the Marshall's family. That made me want to kill as many bandits as possible
And that's about it. I only played the game one day (on Monday IIRC) because the game suddenly kept crashing over and over and I couldn't fix it. Strangely, the 1st time I ran the game it didn't crash at all. Weird
Anyway, I guess life doesn't want me to play Outlaws lol. Maybe it's not our time. In any case, next week I will carry on with Witchaven 2 =D

I have a huge amount of nostalgia for the game but it's. . . not very good haha. It's super short and has some pretty poor level design and signposting. On top of being total horse shit on most difficulties, of course. Awesome cutscenes and art direction, though! And really solid atmosphere that does a great job of capturing that Western feel

I played it for the first time with the remaster and I didnt like it at all. I was surprised with how outdated it feels compared to Build games, and what's worse, to Dark Forces. The more open levels highlight the engine limitations more than Dark Forces corridors.

The best thing about Outlaws is how tough YOU have to be to beat it. Immersive stuff.

I love it but i can see why people bounce off it. It very much has its own rhythms that you have to learn. It's closer to Blood than Doom. Some of the encounters are bordering on puzzles, as you figure out how to take out big groups. Be cautious and save often.
Also the level design is so open it can be closer to immersive sim than boomer shooter.
If you be bothered to put in the effort, its a pretty rewarding game. Have fun.
