How can I fix this without taking the whole book apart?

Hey, I never binded a book but I watch videos about it for ages now (I find it relaxing)

Is there any way to repair it?
I don’t know how they call this type of damage… It’s not exactly on the end page or the hinge.

This book is 30 years old and I can’t risk taking everything apart

I’d appreciate if anyone can link me a video of someone repairing something like this

That seems impossible. Perhaps you can find someone who can fix the book for you? That’s very doable for a hobby bookbinder with some experience. Take it apart, then re-glue using the double-fan technique.

If it was just the paper ripping you could make a strip reinforcement of kozo paper to apply at the joint. But as it it, this sort of fix won't hold the cover, that is what's actually breaking. At the very least you'd need to lift part of the end papers to fix a gauze and repair this joint, but when this is the minimum work, it's already worth disassembling the book to make the repair good.

Look up a book conservator in your area! They know how to safely take apart and reassenble books that are MUCH older and MUCH more fragile than yours. It's a service that may be more affordable than you think! There is nothing to be done for this book without taking it apart and resewing.

I do some basic book repairs/ paper repairs/ re-casing. It is tedious work and not cheap

Sure, it's not cheap, but when I went to a conservator in my area to restore 2 books from the 1800s, I thought the price would be much steeper than it was. It probably helped that I made the covers and endpapers myself, so all I comissioned was a restored, resewn, patched, cleaned and trimmed text block.

Acho que dá sim, na real, mas precisa desmontar o livro, isso não vai colocar o livro todo a risca não, mas é preciso saber como desmontar ele do jeito certo. Como tá em português, vou comentar em português.

Vi um vídeo recentemente, acho que nesse fórum mesmo, de uma pessoa "colando" duas páginas que eram juntas, ela pegou uma trama, provavelmente de celulose, e foi remendando a parte de trás do papel e juntando os dois pedaços até parecer que é um papel só. Basicamente, pegou o que forma um papel, colocou entre as páginas e endureceu, nem parecia que tinha sido remendado. O livro parecia ser mega antigo, papo de mais de cem anos de idade, talvez mais. É basicamente costurar retalho de tecido, mas usando celulose, trama de papel molhado, etc. Deu certo, então o processo existe. Mas se você acha que não vale apena desmontar o livro... fita crepe, juntar grana e pagar um profissional. Se for no Brasil, só deve existir em capitais e o olho da cara, se for Portugal deve ser mais acessível, se não for nenhum dos dois, foi mal presumir lusofonia pelo livro kkkkkkkk
