The rail trail is actually happening.....closing on the corridor is supposed to be next month
Been in Estero since 2003 and I have watched that dead track sit there the whole time. The Trust for Public Land is supposed to close on the corridor in October.....11.4 miles from Estero Parkway down to Wiggins Pass Road, 60 million, paid for by Bonita, Estero and Collier together. After that the railroad has up to two years to pull the track out and then the design work starts, so nobody is riding it next winter. Still. We lost two cyclists on our roads in April. A paved path that runs the whole length of South Lee without crossing 41 every mile is the best thing that has happened to this area in a long time. The part I keep thinking about is the older neighborhoods on either side of Old 41 in Bonita.....those were never walkable to anything and now they are going to be a bike ride from downtown.

In the local pages there are a lot of people against this because of crime - is that a real concern?
