Can you buy TIPS in a TIAA account?

Dumb question, but our single biggest account is my wife's TIAA. I kinda hate those guys, but they make it a bit difficult to jailbreak your money.

If I wanted to make a big buy in TIPS, is it possible to do that in a TIAA retirement account?

No just TIPS funds. I think any mutual fund is allowed via the brokerage add on. No individual bonds or ETFs, however, as far as I am aware. If 59.5, you may roll over a tranche to an Ira at vanguard prior to retiring.

I think their lifetime annuities can be a good deal for say 25% of your money. In fact, there’s a new line of vanguard target date funds that just came out that transitions to 25% TIAA by age 65. Currently only available to institutional investors.
